Indoor vs. Outdoor Target Range, which one gives you a better challenge.

Hi fellow gun nutz members. I believed that each one of you felt the difference between shooting inside and outside the range. Now my question is, does indoor practice gives you a better challenge rather that shooting outdoor or vice versa. I need to know your thoughts and experienced. Please feel free to voice out everything here. Thank you.
 
Well I find outdoor ranges better for me. I'm strictly a long gun shooter though. I find that outdoor ranges usually are longer giving you opportunity to practice those long shots. Also practicing in more real world environments (dealing with light, wind, weather etc) better for when I am hunting. Also at the outdoor range I know some guys shoot clay pigeons. I don't think I've seen any indoor ranges with that option. :) Not that there is anything wrong with indoor ranges. When it is -40 I know I wouldn't turn my nose up at a nice warm place to shoot.
 
That's a good point, a real world gives you the same actual feeling when your shooting your target. I totally agree with you wdh662. But, have you tried indoor as well? If you do, what difference did you noticed? Is it a lot better indoor or you didn't experienced any difference. Looking forward for an answer to these questions. I hope I'm getting more response to all other shooters out there, in case someone managed to browse this thread. Thanks to all.

I always shoot outdoors, not necessarily by choice because we only have outdoor ranges in my neck of the woods, but i would think indoors would be easier just because you take the wind out of the picture.
 
I wanna ask everyone about the indoor and outdoor target range so I can decide where should I go. I'm referring to Aurora Gun Club and Barrie Gun Club, and I live in Maple Ontario ( 5 minutes away from Canada's Wonderland). These are the things that makes me undecided, Aurora Gun Club is indoor, about 42 minutes drive from my house. New members fee is about $780, after a year is $380. IPSC competition only.
While Barrie Gun Club is 1 hour drive, outdoor, will cost me more gas and mileage. $533 for the first year as a new member and $423 every year after. They have IDPA and IPSC. I like them both but still can't decide which one gives me more benefit. Can someone help me decide, I would appreciate all of your thoughts and comments about this.

Thats exactly the info I was looking for myself. I'm in Thornhill, 10 mins from you :)

Have you found any info? Their websites are both pretty basic with not much info. I dont mind paying a bit more, or driving farther, if one of these has an outdoor range, preferably with skeet shooting...
 
Hi bigpoppa, someone here suggested Barrie Gun Club. It's outdoor, the only problem I have is the driving. I was planning to visit the club this weekend and then checkout Aurora on Thursday. I will let you know the outcome.
 
Do they allow you to pay a walk on fee and use the range for the day? If so go try each one out and see how you like each of them
 
Hi dand883, as far as I know no Gun Club will allow you to do that unless you are a member. The only thing that they will let me do is check around the facilities.
 
There's another Gun Club that is close to Thorn Hill and Richmond Hill, it's called Target Sports Canada. I've been there quite a few times and I'm also considering that place. It's about 24 minutes away from Maple, the only reason I'm changing my mind is the Annual fee which is about $600.
