Indy FAL flash hider removal

darxtar, not sure why you need a drill. I took mine off and made a muzzle brake for it. Works great. As I recall, there is a small disc pinned into the threaded part of the flash hider/muzzle. This is near the bayonet lug. Drive out the pin with a punch, remove the disc which locks the threads, and turn the hider off. There will be an adjusting shim inside the hider so don't loose it, you may want it later. The thread on mine was 9/16- 28, I think. I can check on that if you like. R H thread, by the way.

The Indian Ishapore 1A1 rifle uses the same thread flash eliminator (flash suppressor) as the Commonwealth L1A1 and C1A1. To remove the flash suppressor, use a hammer and punch to remove the pin in the hump behind the bayonet lug. Remove the index washer that is between the lugs of the "hump." Make a flash suppressor removal tool using a suitable large nut.

Bore the nut ("flash suppressor wrench") out to the largest diameter of the suppressor close to the bayonet lug. Notch the nut 1/2 way though to the width of the bayonet lug. Put the barrel in a padded vise, put the wrench or modified nut over the suppressor so that the notch fits over the bayonet lug. Use the appropriate box end wrench to unscrew the flash suppressor counter clockwise or anti-clockwise.

After removal of the flash suppressor, remove the adjusting spacer that is inside the suppressor. The adjusting spacer is used to postion the suppressor so that it is over the notch for the index washer and pin. Bag the pin, index washer, and adjusting spacer for use later. The barrel threads are 9/16-24 RIGHT HAND.

Barrels for Metric pattern FALs use the same thread, except they are LEFT HAND.

Flash Eliminator Removal

Hi
Can you replace the eliminator on an Indian FN with a Canadian C1 eliminator??

I have a large nut in my parts that is notched and I remember someone telling me it was for the FN. But the ring on the outside of the eliminator on an Indian FN is larger then the C1, isn't it?

I don't see why not. I know that the Canadian Bayonet fits the Indian A1 fine.
