Inertia pulling OLD rounds

I have an old box of Western .300 H&H magnum shells with the old rounded primers. They delay about half a second when I fire them, so I want to pull the bullets and re-load them.

I have an inertia type bullet puller, but am wondering if these old primers are stable enough to do it safely...

Anyone have experience with this kind of thing?
 
If anything the primers are less volatile and more stable. I would not have a problem using an inertia puller. Put a wad of paper towel or something in the bottom of the puller to help keep the bullets from getting deformed.

One thing to watch for is how much of a crimp there is holding the bullet. You may have really swing that sucker to get them out.

Now you will have to deprime them. I would soak with water first.

Oh yeah, wear safety glasses!
 
Inertia pullers are best way to pull the bullets with the least damage. The primers not a big concern. I would just fire off the old primers in the rifle once you have pulled the bullets, then deprime. Careful - they are far too loud to pop indoors!
 
One box only?
Is it worth the bother to do so?
You will have one box with this lot of brass, and the rest of your loads will be built from other brass.
Why not just sell or trade them to cartridge collectors.
Then start with all new components.
 
Just to save a bit of time with the inertia puller, if you use the seating die just to break the seal by a hair, they will come out much easier.
 
Got em pulled. Some of the powder came out in chunks, kinda like wet sand, so that was like likely the problem. Still not going to reuse the primers though...

Just too see what would happen I dumped some powder on the floor of the garage and lit it. Never seen powder so hard to light, or slow burning!
