I'm looking for some lightweight backpackers in both 9mm and .44 mag. Beaters, something I can toss around and scratch up without a worry.

Do they come in inexpensive bolt action/ break action forms? Or am I stuck shelling out the cash for a fancy semi auto or lever action?

What are the cheapest models, in either caliber, available to us canadians?

I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

For the 44 you are probably looking at a handy rifle, i would consider spending a little more and getting a mare's leg. As for the 9mm the cheapest I have seen is a keltec sub 2000, which isnt that cheap.

rossi mares leg gets my vote, ive got the 44 and i love it. its light powerful and tons of fun. not the cheapest but its half the price of the henry and chippas guns. on the note of beating up guns, i honestly never see a reason to beat up on a gun ever, it takes very little effort to take care of a gun and it will last forever. not taking care of a gun will result in even the best guns breaking, and combining a cheap gun and the fact that you will be beating up on it you might as well buy them in bulk because they wont last long or work when you want them too. just my 2 cents.

The mares leg is a very handy choice for backpacking. I have one in 44 mag. Really packs a punch and will take the smile off a bears face quickly.
