Inexpensive Cerakote setup

Crack a window on the opposite side of the basement. if your house is well constructed.

Ian, can you post a quick picture of your oven. My buddy and I are currently building an oven large enough to fit motorcycle frames in for powder coating. when it is finished it will be easy to bake anything I might want to cerakote.
Our oven is built from 2 scrap double wide/ deep lockers. cut the back off one ripped the doors off the other. Welded them together, studded the inside with steel studs for insulation space and then put concrete board up. Need to order a PID and finish the door latches.

Great looking set up!
Does you copper pipe 'ladder' cool the air and drain the moisture with a cracked valve at the bottom? Anything out of sight of the blasting cabinet?
Regarding you P/A spray gun, what size nozzel is suitable for the cera kote, and where is the best pace to get a suitable amount for a pistol slide?
Regards,
John

Yes, I have not had any water/moisture issues since I built it. I use the Princess Auto spray gun with the 0.8 nozzle. It works well.

I get mine direct, doing a group buy with friends. I think there is someone who imports it. I know Beetle Outdoors imports Duracoat. Maybe he can get Cerakote.

It wasn't till after that I realized how little it cost me for my setup.

$140 Compressor
$125 Blasting cabinet
$100 Filter/dryer
$200 Smoking oven
$18 Paint gun
$75 for pipes/fittings/etc...

$658 total (+tax) for all the tooling needed to sand blast parts/barrels and cerakote them. Yeah, I got everything when it was on sale, but these items seem to go on sale pretty regularly. The compressor is on sale right now, and so it the smoking oven. It can obviously be done for even cheaper if you don't want to do full length barrel (toaster ovens are $30 new), and if you already have some things like the compressor.

Don't forget the cost of a few gallons of brake cleaner, a soaking tank, lots of paper towels, a respirator, blast media, mixing/measuring cups, paint booth ?, electricity. Oh yeah, the 100.00 for the Cerakote at least with shipping. I know I'm forgetting a few things... Or 3 barrels and 2 actions for well under 600. from a pro. I think you just really love the challenge of DIY. I applaud your ingenuity. Good for you.
