Inexpensive digital caliper

Yep, got one, have had it for years (since the reg. price was $64.99:( ).

Works good, accurate to 4 decimal places.

Bit of a battery eater though, buy a few xtra to have on hand when you go to use it and the battery is dead.

Those cheap calipers are great. I have found them to be repeatable and accurate All mine give the same readings as a 'big name' $450 caliper.

They are so cheap that I pretty much consider them to be 'disposable' and toss them in the toolbox. (I haven't ruined one yet though)

I have vague plans to make a DRO for my lathe/mill out of 8" and 12" ones.

Those seem to be the cheap chinese-made generic calipers that many companies buy and stick their name on them and sell. I've seen the same exact caliper sold under 4 different names. Mine's Mastercraft, good for the price, no complains so far.

My MasterCraft ones using a set of good gages measures .001" LESS then the size it should be from .250" to 4". This means they are plenty accurate seeing as Calipers arnt even ment for accuracy below a couple thou anyways as thats a job for micrometers ;)

For the Vancouver-area CGNers out there, KMS Tools always has a good selection of digital calipers. Keep an eye out for their sales for even better deals.

I've got a couple princess auto calipers, a regular vernier set and a dial caliper set. Both were dirt cheap, and are more than accurate enough for my purposes. I'm sure the mastercraft digi calipers are good too, wouldn't know because I've never tried 'em. A machinist friend of mine (works for the city of burnaby) poo-poo'd my calipers, but we did a comparo of my $29 Powerfist dial caliper vs. his $600 Mitutoyo dial caliper, and guess what? The Powerfist set was only about 2.5% less accurate/repeatable than the Mitutoyo. Granted, 2.5% is a lot when it comes to precision measurement, but for about 1/20th the price, I was impressed.
