Hey, just looking for some info on an old shotgun I have aquired. It is a Marlin model 19-S. The gun itself is not in very good shape however the action, mag tube, and forestock are all fine. My question is this, is it a desireable model that someone would be interested in for parts. I have sold old shotguns to dealers in the past for parts but I have no idea which ones are desireable, rare, etc. If it isn't worth anything I might just hang on to it as the action is kind of neat and it is still functional. Any feedback would be appreciated.

A couple years back Marlin put out a press release stating it doesn't recommend shooting it's older, exposed hammer shotguns. This was just probably on the advice of their lawyers, but regardless, they don't have the cult following that say a Winchester 1897 has. Not worth a whole lot, IMO.
 
These old Marlin's aren't worth alot. A grade A in excellent cond. might fetch $250. There are several model numbers for these guns and most of them were take down types. If it locks up solid "Shoot it". Use 1-1/8 oz target or trap loads and you will take lots of grouse and pheasant. Check the firing pin because alot of these old guns have a broken pin and some times will fire when you slam a round home.My buddy had a model 29 that did this and he took out the front tire on my pick-up truck when we stopped to shoot some partridge.Some of the cow-boy action shooters are lookink for these exposed hammer guns.Who knows ,maybe the E+E can find it a new home...
 
According to the blue book values, a model 19 in grade D in 100% condition is $1320.00 down to a grade A in 60% condition at $140.00. The pistol grip looks like it was taped at some point. It's probably not worth much, maybe hang on to it.
