Info needed on Cooey Rabbit

You are very specific on what you need to know. They have been around for years, I think I ot mine in 67 or 68 and they were going for about $45.00 then and a good one can go for $150. now. You will find a few on here periodically. I find mine very accurate.

The Cooey rabbit stock was an extra deluxe item. this stock came on all models periodically. even as new as the Model 64. Just like the etchings on many woods today. Just to sell more guns. More appealling to many buyers. Looks more expensive. the steel barrels and actions were the same on rabbit or plain wood models.

I have one... Sorry model slips me... tube feb .22 Stock is very useable conditions, but has a couple chips out of it..... just got it on a trade... I gave a snap on timing light that I haven't used in 10+ years and got a 22... I might have gone down a bit in $$$ value, but I am still happy

Are you talking the actual Cooey "rabbit" single shot from around 1920 or are you just talking the Winchester/Cooey repeater that has the rabbit embossed into the stock? This is not a "true rabbit" Cooey. If talking the winchester/cooey repeater, any model 600 stock will work. The older model 60 stock might work but I have never tried it.

Single shot

Yes, need to see pics. If the original rabbit, it had a small flat stock (like a toy cork gun) with no buttplate and it had a small flat bolt. I have one in smooth bore. 2 nights ago an old gent gave me some guns and amongst them was a Cooey Rabbit. It has a stock like the Ace1 and a round bolt handle. I don't know if the stock was replaced at some point or if they marked some of the "newer Aces" as Rabbit. So a stock from an Ace will fit. Cool little boy's guns. Below are pics of mine. The top one is the original style stock. The second one is the Ace style. It has rounded features and a steel buttplate.

The top one is exactly it
My buddy's has a stock that is busted up pretty bad and I wanted to know if there was any way to find one.

The original rabbit like the top one is not a very easy gun to find anymore. Some are around but are not common. Finding a stock like it will be tough. About the only thing you could do is post on different forums in the wanted sections and hope someone sees it that has one laying around. How bad is it broken? You'd be surprised at what could be fixed. The only other thing you could do is make one. Its a pretty basic stock so I would think anyone that has basic wood working skills could make one for you if all else fails.

By the way, here is info from John Belton's Cooey book.
The rabbit came out in the mid twenties and was only made for a few years. It was made for distribution in Western Canada by J.H. Ashdown.
So, your rabbit is not easy to find anylonger.

I was up at a friends cattle ranch this past weekend the father in law pulled out his old Rabbit 22 single shot rifle.

Somehow the bolt handle had cracked so he welded it back on unfortunately the heat ruined the firing pin spring.

Just found this thread because I was doing a search to find out what model/manufacturer made the gun.

His rifle looks exactly like the lower one in the picture he wants to fix it up for his 3 & 7 year old granddaughters can shoot the rifle.

Does anyone have any idea how he can replace the spring or does anyone have a bolt that they would consider selling?

It likely has a small handle bolt. You could watch on the EE under rimfire parts. Sometimes they pop up. There was a fellow on there some time back that had several bolts listed for the early Cooeys.

Thanks for the info I did some searching around when I found that bolts from other Cooey models may actually be able to swap over to the Rabbit model.

Got me to thinking a couple years ago a buddy of mine gave me two old rusted out single shot 22 rifles I never looked at them just put them in a steel locker.

I just pulled them out one is a model 39 the other is a mag tube feed I looked at the 39 looks like the bolt is almost the same.

I just offered the entire gun to them they will pick up when they get home from the ranch.

Thanks for the heads up I wouldn't have figured it out without your comment.
