I'm looking for info and advise on 7mm leadless hunting bullets preferably in the 160gr range for use in my sendero in rem mag. What are you guys using with what powders and why? As always any responses are appreciated, thanks.

I like the 140gr TTSX in the 7mmremmag. I don't use heavier monometal bullets, because I like to keep the velocity higher, since the monometals expand better with more velocity. My go to powder for the 7mmremmag is R-22.

^ everything he says is spot on.

With the mono metals, the manufacturers suggest dropping a weight class or two to keep the velocity up.

TTSX need to be pushed at over 2000fps (iirc) on impact to expand.

Have you checked what sort of range the 150 or 160gr tsx outpaces the 140 due to slightly higher bc?

What lead core bullets were you using before?
If you were using 160's before the non-lead bullets will be longer.
I had been using 160 grain Speer MagTips and when I went with Barnes, the 140 grain appeared to match length better.
The 160 Barnes might be closer to a 175 grain lead based bullet.

With mono's, think lighter and faster. A 140 gr TTSX will perform like A 160 gr partition because the 140 gr mono will retain at least 90%+ of its original weight and penetrate like nothing else! Since you're shooting a 7mm Rem Mag, I'd lean towards a 145/150 gr mono bullet, myself. You need at least 2000 fps impact velocity to ensure proper expansion (min 1600 fps for the LRX according to Barnes). So if you launch a heavy mono at slow muzzle velocity, you will limit your shooting distance and risk a poor performing bullet if you are shooting at the max distance of the velocity envelope. All those 'barnes don't open' nay-sayers are pretty much shooting or have seen shots past the velocity envelope. I've never had a bad shot or 'kill' with a Barnes. All the animals have been done on first shot. (Pretty much all my hunting loads are TTSX/LRX bullets... except my 270 for which I use Nosler AB's. Just happened to be an accurate load so stuck with it!)

This gun lives on 162gr hornady a-max at the range and sst's for hunting,I worked up a load for Eld-x bullets but want to try some gm bullets be for the season.

That all makes sense, I haven't ever really paid attention to down range velocities but I do now have access to a labradar. My 162s are leaving the barrel at 3050fps which I always thought was fast for the cartridge.

Depends on what data you accept. IMHO, I find most current 7RM data to be really anemic. Look at older data and you’d find that loads were a bit more stout. I was shooting 160 gr bullets out of my 7RM at 3050 fps. Just pay attention to pressure signs.
