I'm looking to get a holster for my 9mm semi-auto. I was told the kydex holsters will scratch the side the side of my slide, is this true? I'm thinking of taking my black badge. Would a nylon holster be fine for IPSC ?

What kind of a pistol?
I use a GP K100 for IPSC and I'm whipping it out of a kydex holster with nary any marks to date. I'm more concerned about tearing off my front sight shooting through ports than any marks left by the holster.

IMO, go for the Kydex. Nylon, being a fabric, can grap and hold onto dirt that has a better chance of scratching your finish. Kydex is easier to clean.

I have a Ruger p89. Thanks for the reply, I never thought about the nylon holding dirt that would scratch the slide or the fact that the nylon may grab onto the sights. Thanks again.

Hear is my experience for what it's worth. I bought a used Sig P226 two-tone and it came with a Kydex holster and it scratched the frame up pretty bad.

I have not used another Kydex since, I have a leather holster and a couple of nylon ones and have had no issues with any of them marking up the finishes on the guns used in them.

To respond to Echo's post, when would you get dirt in holster, outside of dropping your gun or rolling around in the dirt? For cleaning you can through the nylon holster in the wash.
