Info on Hornady ELD-X Bullets

I shot two bears with the 162gr eld x bullets. One bear at 25yards. Dead right there and complete pass through with golf ball exit. One bear at 375 yards with the exact same results. I think they are great bullets. Placement is everything
 
Well loaded some rounds up with the Last of my Barnes 130gr. TSX (20ea.)and Reloader 22 (48.5gr.) Lapua brass, CCI 200 primer. OCL. 3.000
first 3 rounds in same hole and next 2 rounds 1/2in. and 1 inch from group! (Its me!) I think I'm set up for moose! Thanks for all your help!
 
I would use the Hornady 160 RN on Moose. or Woodleigh of the same weight with a 6.5x55. My sporterized 96 model gives 0.3 moa with the Hornady 160. MPBR +/- 3 inches is 220 yards. Can be increased for moose.
 
I'm going to use the 30 cal 212 eld-x for what ever...pretty sure they will work out just fine....used mono last year (e-tip) and was very disappointed with the results...unreliable expansion.

Nice rifle...

I really like the 140 grain Accubond in 6.5mm (6.5X55 and 6.5 RM), I have taken whitetails, caribou, black bears and mountain goat with them and perfect performance every time... I do shoot the 129 SST on deer out of my .260 and 6.5X55 and it does a satisfactory job... I do have a load for both with the 143 ELD-X, but have yet to use it on game... but they certainly are accurate... if one of the 6.5's gets the draw this fall, I will give them a go.

Do you know what velocity the E-tip was at?

I was thinking of loading this in my 7mm....but was hoping to keep impact velocity above 2500.
 
Yes! 143 ELD-X in this rifle will shoot 1/2 inch, or better. Love the rifle and caliber! Great rifle

It was factory nosler ammo...180 gr from a 30 nosler at 200 yards... muzzle velocity is around 3100 so impact velocity was still pretty high.
 
ELDx will have lots of splash on impact. Friend of mine shot a 220gr ELDx from his 300 RUM into a small moose recently, bullet came apart (core seperated from jacket). Dead moose. I prefer a stouter bullet on larger animals
 
A side note on the heat shield technology of the ELD bullet...It's "bull ####t".

On the farm I have gongs set out to 900 yards...On occasion when the left/right breeze affects my shots I miss...Come spring I get to collect the bullets that missed the gongs...Well surprize surprize the ballistic tips that Hornady claimed would be miss shaped from heat are pristine in shape...All of them...Some of these bullets are sent down range at velocities over 3800 fps out of my 22-250's.

I don't see the problem here. If the bullets shoot well and the tips are made from hydraulically dried and pressed liberal tears, or unicorn horns, or are exactly the same as the last 10 yeas who cares. As long as they shoot well and are affordable and available.
