I was curious so I emailed vault and asked when it will be available and they said " We are just awaiting the magazines for the riffles to arrive and then we will be launching them." I replied and asked what they think retailers might sell it for and I'm waiting for the reply.

"The rifle comes as a pre pack with bag and optic as well. I believe they will hit the shelves for $1249."

How much does the original su16f go for? I can't find it on any sponsor sites. I'm probably not looking hard enough

Agreed. But even if they make it a little stronger I still feel like it won't last as long as a $1250 gun should last.

You just described the original su16 too.

The one I had didn't break, seemed to work good, I liked the ergos. I couldn't get past the plastic-ness of it though and how it didn't feel sturdy.
It was a good idea, but it fills only a small niche. I think lumping it in with black rifles, ARs, and even mini14s, is missing the point of the su16 and really setting people up for disappointment - especially at the price vault sells them.

For this reason I will never buy a product from Vault no matter what it is!!!

These guns are made to sell at a certain price point, and at that price they are not bad, but with these markups you are not getting any value whatsoever out of these guns.
