Info on Kel-Tec SU-16fx

Its a cheap knock-off of an Eotech. I've wasted a couple bucks on cheap knock-offs and found their only strong point is they look pretty close to real. Everything else sucks harder than a $3 hooker. Every single one was unusable. They make nice movie props but I don't think they're even up to airsoft standards which are quite low... But who knows, maybe someone finally made a knock-off of a good optic that doesn't suck. For the price they sell for they better at least work. That would be a nice feature.
I bought one of the first su-16 fx's, on Wednesday of last week. Google trace optics, and the first thing that pops up is an Eotech news release about counterfeit products. Lol
If the area you are in has a light shining behind you or above you, the glare reflecting into your eye makes it tough to look through. It's dark, and doesn't zero worth a damn. If you get it on paper, you're lucky if it could hold zero. Mind you, it looks "cool" but works better as a paper weight.
I put on a Nikon 3x32 AR 223, the next day and that's the best scope for this rifle. Fantastic light transmission/function and spectacular glass. it's designed specifically for an AR .223. Great eye relief and field of view.

I csnt see them selling very well for 1250 I mean I would personally grab a type 97 or even a mini14 (I know it doesn't use ar mags) I think there a great idea but it went shooting when it was almost minus 50 I doubt the su16 would hold up
I've been keeping tabs on the wanstalls thread. They had 6 left when I asked and someone is saying sold out now. From the 20 they got.
Reliable still seems to have them in stock.
$1250 seems crazy to me too. I mean look at how well hey sell on EE in any variety.
That optic is definitely a throw away or something you sell to the air softer.

Would any type of disassembly turn this firearm from R to NR? For the people who are worried about being in posession of a unregistered restricted with or without an RPAL, could disassembly be an option?
I'm not familiar with how this rifle takes down. But seeing as how the receiver is not restricted, if the barrel and receiver are seperated you should not be in violation of any law, correct?
I know if you take the barrel off a prohibited handgun, the rest of the gun becomes restricted unless prohibited by name.
So, take the barrel off a restricted rifle and it becomes NR unless restricted by name?
Can anyone comment on this methodology?

In what specific example would it matter if you removed a barrel from the upper receiver of any SU16 currently in Canada?
AFAK, all Su16's brought in have been 18.5" +
I believe a lot of this is stemming from another thread in the "General" forums regarding a few members believe they have somehow purchased Restricted barrel length models accidentally here in Canada. Which of course we do not a Restricted modle of the SU16 in Canada. Best I can figure is they are mistaken on how to measure the barrel length properly and are having a bit of panic moment thinking they have 16" barrels on their SU16's. Of course making them prohibited but referring to them as restricted.

No ones mistaken, they are 16" barrels. They are all being recalled to get re-barreled. The panic is, the individual owner has to personally send it back to Vault, who sends it back to Kel tec, who will install the 18.5" barrel and will then send it back to the owner. The big headache is the 30-90 day period for all that to happen.
Wow... How the hell did they get into the country then?
And why would it be on the individual owner of the "prohibited rifle" sold to them without knowing to send it back? I'd be in the LGS's face asking for a full refund. It should be on them.
On a side note with that refund you could buy a regular SU16 and add the options it came with for less money and put on a decent red dot sight.
Waiting for the confusion to clear up, hoping my local dealer steps up and pays for shipping it back. I shouldn't have to deal with the headache. I would like to walk it back into my dealer, hand it over, and be told how sorry they are and that I'll have my rifle back within 30 days.

Why remove the barrel unless you want to put the longer barrel on it?
Ask yourself this question, if remove the barrel from an Ar15, does it become non restricted? or is it not considered a firearm anymore?
It depends on which part of the firearm is registered as a firearm.
