Just rescued this rifle from let's just say, less than desirable conditions. It has a lot of sentimental value to my family and as such I would like to know as much as I can about it. I will be attempting to save the metal. Also I would like to put a new stock on it as this one is well, pooched. Would like a similar Monte Carlo with palm swell if one of you guys has one in decent shape you would like to part with. Anyway, here are some pics and thanks in advance. Tyson.

The rifle is a 1200 Super made in 1972.
For a replacement stock, the rifle is built on a standard commercial M/98 action, made by La Corunas arsenal in Spain (a.k.a. Santa Barbara).

What has been pewched can sometimes be unpewched.
Extra fine steel wool and some oil.
Redo the stock and sand as wee as possible, even less.

Take step by step photos and bring them back here.

I fear this one is too far gone. Many cracks and missing a large chunk just behind the safety.

It's not clear from the pics. These Parker Hale models had a tendancy for the stock to crack right at the back of the receiver. These cracks are often thin and difficult to see.

I am no expert, but this is a critical part of the stock where it takes a lot of recoil pressure every time the gun is fired. If there is a crack in this location parallel to the bore, I would not consider restoring the stock.

It is my understanding that it is generally the recoil lug, usually near the front of the action, that is designed to transfer recoil from the action to the stock. 'Tang' cracks are most likely caused by the action setting back over time, and are usually easy to fix, and to prevent through bedding of the recoil lug area and providing relief between the tang and the stock.
