newbie here, hello all

I am looking for any information on this rifle i recently purchased for hunting.

It is a 270. win. the markings on the gun include "cal .270 win"
"Midland Gun Co. England", the serial #, and the letters "BNP" with a crown above it.

When i was looking to buy a scope for it the fella in the gun shop looked under "Parker Hale" for the mount #'s, but even then the screws that he gave me were too large for the threads on the barrel. Any information on this rifle/company such as specs, history, etc would be greatly appreciated

If it is the Midland I am thinking of it is a bit of a bastard..... it was the cheapest thing P.H. marketed..... it took an altered set of weaver bases - I don't remember what we did at the time. This was about 20 years ago. The action has a look all of it's own... like a cross between a 98 and a Springfield..... but with none of the good points. Sorry..

thanks gun tech...any info is better than no info and now i know what i've got...a cheap low-end rifle rifle from a defunct company and using "Macgiver'ed baseswith an action without any good points about it:rolleyes:
oh well at least it's mine.

There are Weaver bases that will fit these without alteration; two styles, one of which used 8-40 screws, rather than 6-48. There are also PH bases which fit. I'll see if I can find the Weaver numbers.

A considerable number of these were sold in Victoria. When they first hit the market the only mounts that would fit were P.H. but I adapted weaver bases at that time to fit as that was a lot cheaper than using P.H. mounts. At that time the threads were 6 x 48. I haven't seen any of these for a long time.

There is nothing wrong with the rifles, even if they were the least expensive in the PH line. They are a solid, well built Mauser '98 derivative. I have owned several over the years.

You might want to post on the Exchange of Parts & Bits section to see if any members have some PH rings kicking around. Measure the width of the machined dovetail as PH had about 3 or 4 different standards over the years. The more info you supply, the better chance you have of getting what you need.
