Hey all,

Picked this up from TradeEx a while ago. Had a chance to go shoot some clays today. The action was a little stiff, but after some use it got nicer. I cleaned it all up and oiled it well today. The ejectors work even though TradeEx indicated that they didnt. They must not have cracked the action all the way.

For the $350 or so I paid after getting it here, I'm pretty happy with the gun. Its pretty and a lot of fun to shoot. Points nicely.

Just wondering if anyone has done any research on them?

On the barrel it appears to say TFNCI-Mec manufactured for Husqvarna. I think it might actually say Tecni-Mec and I'm just not seeing it perfectly.

Here is what I know from a few google searches.

Established during 1971 (F.A.I.R. stands for Fabbrica Armi Isidoro Rizzini, owned by Isidoro Rizzini) and located in Marcheno, Italy.
No current domestic importation under the F.A.I.R. trademark.
In 2003, the name changed from F.A.I.R. Tecni-Mec I. Rizzini to F.A.I.R. S.r.l.
Previously imported and distributed exclusively by New England Arms Corp. located in Kittery Point, ME."

...

I didn't see any reference to Techni-Mec on the web site http://www.fair.it/

On to the pics. As you can see its not perfect but it is quite good for its age (not that I have any clue what that is). I mostly just bought it because its nice looking. It could sit on the mantle, that fact that it works and shoots great is a bonus.

From what Ive read about FAIR they are pretty good guns. Looking at yours,Id say you got a great deal at 350 bucks. Id take it over a brand new Silver Reserve anyday.

very nice looking gun, for 350 id say its a steal.

While the OP did okay, the gun is not exactly a steal. It depends on how you look at it. If the only intent is to use this as a shooter without regards to condition, then he did fine if it functions properly. However, many things are looked at when an outfit such as tradeex puts a price on a gun. They are not fools. The condition of this gun by all appearance could use a complete refinish and not just the wood. There is pitting on the barrels , on the breech and on various parts of the action. Is there any pitting in the bores? And of course brand and level of workmanship all have an effect on value. If someone was going to have this reconditioned by someone, it would far exceed the value of the gun. However, if someone can work on the gun themselves then it would indeed be a fun project. I am not trying to burst the OP's bubble. He asked what we thought and I am giving an honest evaluation. But like I said, if he just wants a shooter and if it functions, then he did fine.

Brian, you're just mad cause it doesn't have extenal hammers. Lol

Actually it's exactly what I thought. Nice gun. Lots if rust/pitting. Hope the OP likes working on his guns.

There are many hidden gems amongst the hundreds of guns they import, and the prices of many of them are fantastic.. I did notice though, that they often ask more than I am willing to pay on some of the more "well used" guns or even the parts guns. I like to buy a "fixer upper" cheap so I am more inclined to spend a little to bring it back to life.

Alas, the perils of internet shopping. The OP did luck out with a nice piece. I myself just bought a mint Remington 3200 special trap double gun for $700 off the net... great find!

James, I'll have you know that the last gun I bought is actually an English boxlock!! :kickInTheNuts: It's actualy a light, great handling SxS for a 12 gauge.

Back to the OP. Don't take my post the wong way. As a shooter you did fine. I was just pointing things out on what to look for that all has an effect on value of a gun. I think your gun would be a nice project if you like fooling around with that sort of thing. You could really make it shine.

No offense taken. wasn't under any false pretenses that I was buying a perfect gun. The bores are excellent. They look brand new. Minor pitting in the chambers, the rest of the pitting is shown in the pictures. The wood is great. A lot of the blemishes shown in the first pics came out with fine steel wool and oil. I bought it because I think the engraving on old shotguns like this is great, and I didn't even have any with wood furniture prior to this. If it wasn't such a shooter, it could sit on display.

Like I said though, it shoots great, working ejectors was an unexpected bonus.

Someday when I have other shotguns I'll completely disassemble clean it up. I'm not afraid to tinker or put in a little money that I'll never recover. For an extreme example of this, see my avatar photo. Theres 15k and hundreds of hours I'll never get back!

Even in the condition it is in it is a better quality gun than a IGA or stoeger or any of those $500-$800 so called entry level guns on retailers shelves today.

No doubt it is but the posts that I made were not about comparing this to another gun. It was about what to look for in a used gun and why the price might have been what it was.
