info on ttsx bullet

There is no cut and dried way to determine the amount a bullet will upset(mushroom), bullets made of pure copper(no lead) tend to penetrate deeper and expand less then other bullets. Animals hit with bullets that don't mushroom much tend to run for a spell, however this is not a hard fast rule, and it still depends on shot placement, and every shot/bullet tends to act differently.

x2,Try telling that to all the Know it all's on the Alberta outdoorsman Forum.

I poked a large bull moose with a 225 TSX out of my .338WM, through the ribs, and he dropped like a rock.

What's the functional difference on game between a TSX and TTSX all else being equal?

.

With the size of the HP difference between the TSX and the TTSX, wouldn't the TTSX tend to open quicker or easier?

From the Barnes website:

The new Tipped TSX features the same 100-percent copper body with multiple rings cut into the shank. It delivers the same gnat’s-eyelash accuracy and “dead right there” performance—but with an added polymer tip that boosts BC and improves long-range ballistics. The tip and a re-engineered nose cavity provide even faster expansion.

I would suggest ordering the catalog from barnes. It's free and comes with this awesome DVD showing slow motion video of their bullets being used on game and ballistic gel.

They expand instantly then hold together 100%.

It's must see even if you're not going to buy their bullets, but I'm sold after seeing it.

Strange to say, but I think the TTSX expand more violently and penetrate deeper than the TSX. Internal carnage from TSX bullets were always fine with me (despite people looking at the small exit wound's and saying "THEY DON'T EXPAND") but the TTSX seem to expand VERY fast and then do the typical Barnes bullet thing, but they are apparently harder than TSX, so penetrate further.

I guess in layman's terms it is thus:

TSX were softer so would expand, therefore could expand lots and would slow penetration, TTSX uses the plastic tip wedge to force expansion, so they can be harder, expand well, but keep penetrating. God, this sounds like ####:p

I've only shot 2 deer with TTSX, and one bear, and they expanded and resulted in internal carnage that was impressive. Small exit holes, but guts blown to schit. Meat damage on the deer I shot at 20 yards in the chest, but not crazy meat damage like from a ballistic tip at similar range.

I'm in with everyone else, your friend is an idiot. I've shot everything from moose to coyotes with Barnes TSX bullets and all of them opened and penetrated just like advertised. The TTSX should open even faster.

I've only killed a handful of animals so far with the TTSX, but it does seem to do a bit more internal damage than the TSX, based on my observations. This is also consistent with the reports of others, including John Barsness...
