Hey everyone! im thinking of getting either a used cooey Model 75 or a model 39 single shot. What are the average prices of each? do they come up for sale alot?
does anyone know of any dealers that may have or do have a used cooey 75 or 39 in stock? Any help would be great! thank you!

Probably depends on where you live. They can be had in my neck of the woods from $50 to $80. I saw one in mint condition last week and offered $100.00 for it but the fellow would not sell.

Another thing worth consideration~Cooey's vary GREATLY in physical size. A 75 "whale belly" is a huge rifle compared to the 39s. I'm actually not fond of 75s, bought one sight unseen and while it was a real shooter, couldn't get around how much rifle I had to tote around for a single shot. I have an old 39 in the safe, even a 750. As big as I am, I like the size of them much more.

Easy to love, and prices are climbing!
I bought 3 single shots at a show for 80 bucks...that's right a show. That was only 3 years ago...now they seem to fetch more than that for one. (I feel sooo old) I have owned quite a few of 'em (I have a rimfire weakness), and my safe feels naked without one.

They do shoot! I have done some of my best 100yd shooting with a 75!

Originally sold as cheap, utilitarian .22's with millions sold. When I was a young lad, any home you walked by likely had an 'ol Cooey tucked behind the door to keep critters out of the garden. My great Aunt used her's almost exclusively for snakes (an 'ol Eatonia)n' chipmunks over the 50+ years she owned it.

Value? I have a hard time with this one...as I'd suggested the prices seem to be climbing. Fellow member (and strangely absent so far) Gunsaholic has a Cooey passion, and an in depth knowledge of 'em! He values them more than me no doubt, but one thing we share is a similar respect for these little gems.

Although not mentioned...the 64 is one I love. I'm Biased, as my first (and still a fav) .22 was my 'ol Cooey 64. Been mine for 25+ years and still runs just fine. Gotta love the fact that now, 50+ years later, they are still made new (with little change) by Savage. 50+years production has gotta mean something!

EDIT:
...I love seeing "whale belly". I coined that term.

Good rifles overall in whatever configuration, barrel length or stock design.
To the OP, if you are looking for one, give me a PM, I have a couple of them and will sell.

I always found the single shots are in better shape then the repeaters a lot of the time. I have both the 75 and the 39. The 75 has never really been used much due to there being no gophers in Quebec. The 39 was used for 40 years back home in Alberta even when I had fancy repeating rifles to shoot.

ever shoot one?

Never.

But the concept seems... devolved.

It was a loaded question...I kinda guessed you hadn't already.

I can't suggest that having some fun with a singleshot (any of 'em) is the pinnacle of shooting pleasures, but I will attest to 1000's of rounds worth of personal joy. Not only for me, but for new/young shooters too. I highly recommend one as a "teacher" rifle, as cycling the bolt doesn't #### the action. Add to that the (quickly changing) low price, and accuracy, and you've got something fine. Still enjoyable if you have repeaters (I have a weakness for rimfires, and have a float of a dozen rifles at most times), and a history of shooting. Being of Canadian origin doesn't hurt either.

I have a Cooey Model 750 (I believe it was what came after the 75 in around 1968). Got it off the EE here for $125 shipped. It is mint however. Perfect bluing and only one or two small marks in the wood. Just an amazing feeling gun, I've shot 1000's of .22 rounds with it and even took it chicken hunting a bit this fall, very light and accurate. The single shot is okay, I can load it pretty fast for follow up shots.

Hey Camster--I'm back!!! Yep, used value for a single shot 39 or 75 is usually $75.00-- to $120.00 depending on condition. That being said, I have a model 39 and 750 new in box that I would not let go for $120.00 if they were for sale.
There is also the model 78 which was the same as the 75 except it came from the factory with a peep sight. They usually bring a bit more if the peep sight is still on it. Then of course don't forget about the model 82 if you want a full wood single shot.
The 39's and 75's are often listed here on the EE.

It just isn't a Cooey thread until you get here!
