Hello All,

I can not find much info online about this wildcat cartridge and the firearms chambered for it.

I am specifically looking for info, and potential value on what Winchester M71 lever guns would be worth, chambered in 450 Alaskan.

Thanks.

Your best bet is a model 71 Browning (a Browning remake).
Original Winchester 71s are getting too valuable.

The 450 Alaskan just misses the 458 Win in outright performance and is capable of driving a 500gr bullet at a bit over 1900fps.
Recoil gets fairly snarly in a light weight carbine with extended range sessions needing a glove to protect the hand from the lever.

If you send me your e-mail address I will scan and send you some info out of Cartridges Of The World.

The .450 Alaskan is the "bees knees" and one of the deadliest rounds one can put in a levergun, like some other cals. based on the .348 Win. case( the .475 and the .50 Alaskan), they are the only rounds that eclipse the 45/70.

I think a 45/90 in an 1886 will get you to within 2 or 3 grains of power of a 450 and it would probably be less work. If I were going to tamper with an 1886 or mdl71 I would look at a browning for winchester made recently just because of the historical value of the older guns.
