Hello all. Not sure I'm posting in the correct forum. I'm looking for information on the legality of an 8ga shotgun in Canada. I know they cannot be used for hunting but I can't find any info on whether or not they can be legally owned or imported into the country. Any info would be great.

I've done a few online searches but keep turning up results that discuss the illegality of hunting with an 8ga, nothing about whether or not the gun itself is illegal.

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

For those of you who celebrate I hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year. Happy Holidays all around!

Yes, no problem in owning them.Just cannot use them for waterfowl. Most likely they would make a good upland game gun though.LOL Bit heavy to carry, but get the job done when needed.:)Too bad there were no giant rabbits in the uplands,an 8 gauge would work good on them,I would think.LOL

LOL. I can't imagine hunting anything with it. I have a fascination with the big gauges. If I decide to go ahead with the purchase it will just be a big, somewhat expensive toy.

Waterfowl. Doves and turkey a 8ga can not be used. Loaded with #4 buck would sure ruin a coyote though. I often looked at buying one for bear over bait with a slug however the costs were prohibitive. Some day ill take a bear with a 10ga slug

British 14ga and Belgian 8ga.
It is an awkward thing in comparison. Not something you would snap shoot with.

Three ounces of payload is something else. IIRC, this bore could handle .40 caliber buckshot.

I did read once an excerpt of a Texas lawman had unwanted visitors his rural ranch. His 8 gauge shotgun outright killed one rider on horseback and gravely wounded the man behind him.
It was a side by side, so his friends departed forthwith.
