Late 1943 or early 1944 mfg Colt [depending on whose serial number range reference you go with]. Correct "GHD" [Col. Guy Drewry] inspector initials on frame. Check under the firing pin stop on the slide to see if the frame serial number is also stamped there [according to records they stopped doing this around serial number 1,139,### but you never know it might be matching - if it has another number stamped there then the slide does not match the frame, if there is no number it likely is original to the frame] Another indicator of a matching frame & slide is does the "P" proof on the slide of the frame below the mag button and on top of the slide forward of the rear site match - are they the same size/font/stamp depth.

Hard to evaluate overall exterior condition given dark photos & oil on pistol. Small parts look correct, including the grips. Magazine is wrong. [It's a Vietnam era generic GI replacement mag given the parts numbers on the base].

There you go. ;)

the font size seems a little larger by the mag button than on top of the slide just forward of the rear sight (but depth and block style of font seem the same.......I don't see any makings by the firing pin................ Thanks for your help and info! I was I had the correct mag for it
Jeff
what is your opinion of worth???
Thanks Contondant for nice comment!

It's hard to judge worth without being able to clearly see the overall finish. Your pistol appears to be "well oiled"...lol... If it is still original park finish with just the usual handling finish wear on the sharp edges and frontstrap/backstrap given today's climate and relative scarcity you likely have a $1,200 - $1,500 Colt there. It does appear to be very nice overall.
