I know there have probably been hundreds of threads on this but I would like to know what it takes for one to become a gunsmith. Machinist aprentice first? I would be pretty interested in the profession but cant find any information on the topic other then general machining at my local college.

There has been a lot of discussion on this... but the CGN search program is as useless as a Liberal.

Get a wife with a good job.

Then plan on spending a lot of money and a couple of years in the US at a gunsmithing school.

Then after a couple of years of training get as good a job as you can to support your gunsmithing profession.

Build your clientele and reputation over the next 40 years so you can keep on working as you don't have much of a pension to fall back on, keep your wife working as long as possible too ... :D

Unless you have some money to spend up front, it is not something you can just jump into as it will take many years before your schooling and tooling is paid for.

have to be one of the offshoots of the Mormon faith, do it in the main church and you will get booted. :) and no one wants that if you are trying to build up to something big like gunsmithing.

I wrote a long article about Gunsmithing, but it never got stickied, and with the search engine changes, I cannot even find my own article!
