####ing 1050, I hate it. Why can't someone come up with a properly engineered press? I went through 15 primer punches last night because the goddamn case feeder kept ####ing up the cases it was "trying" to feed into the case plate. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!

Um...well....(pssst..someone get the pepper spray and lots of chain...) ya, I see you like guns, uhmmm, if you put that down and come over here I'll give you a cookie.....thats right, stop petting it and put it on the table......:(

Probably pays to put the thing together correctly. Just a guess on my part....:D:D:D

ps I have $100 to take the pile of crap off your hands. I'll even split the postage!

One must be smarter than the press he uses...

That why I still use a single stage Lee press ...

P.S. Call Dillon, they they will help sort out the problem.

it's a typical Dillon thing, and yes I've phoned them about it and the bloody case feeder not dropping 9mm cases down the tube properly and everything hanging up up top. If you try to actually get some speed going it won't function. the truly sad part is this is the best press you can get. truly truly sad.

I've had a 1050 press since the first year they came out, 1993ish.

With 9mm cases there is a removable "spacer" that I use at the mouth/top of the tube. Dillon produces a hard molded plastic one that I found to not work all that well. I just use a flat "sheet" that fits into the mouth about the thickness of a piece of cardboard, and that works wonderful. It stops the cases from getting bunched up at the mouth and greatly reduces the amount of cases that get turned upside down.

I mostly use mine for 38spl and I usually wear my arm out before anything goes wrong. I try to do a thousand at a time, about 45 minutes worth.

Dillion 1050 problems

Ive got two of these machines set up in sm/lg primer sizes respectfully. The one in sm. primer has done well over half a million rds. with only minor glitches, mainly from caliber swapping ( eg forgetting to remove spacer ring after loading 357 mag and not readjusting the primer station retain tab.) Appart from obvious wear from some of the plastic parts most problems were opperator error. The only other problem was the case feed would not shut off when the tube was full, so I bent the contact switch out a bit so it would come in contact with the brass regularly. Good luck Doug.

All I can do is console you.....any progressive machine is going to have these types of issues...that is the price of owning something more complex....my Ponsness Warren shotshell reloader can be very frustrating too, I'd suggest you purchase a simple single stage press like a Rockchucker to use when you are angry and need a time out. Remember "bad words make for bad feelings"

Shootist

The Dillon 1050 does not have the same lifetime guarantee as Dillon considers it a commercial machine. I believe their warranty is for one year. Rob would know.

Gunsmoke: Some of the guys would be incoherant if they took out profanity from their vocabulary. Arguable if they are any more coherant with it.

PM Curese (John Parsons) on this board. I believe he uses a couple of 1050's for his reloading business and may be able to offer some insight.

The average reloader could never justify the cost of one of these machines over 550 or anything else comparable based on there volume of reloading. A new one goes for $1500.00 US now and I picked up my first one for $700 locally with the intention of saving time at the bench. As there model numbers relate to rds. per hour loading rate, these machines save me on average one hour per 1000 rds. loaded. The only question is will I use the time wisely? Doug.

John Parsons, never heard of him.................... this is actually one of Johns old presses and yeah I know him pretty well. I also know presses pretty well, I have 3. the Rockchucker being the best, the Pro2000 being second, and this piece of #### being 3rd out of 3. If I had a Lee it would probably be a tie for last place right now.
the feeding issue at the top is an ongoing Dillon problem from what the guys at BrianEnosforums tell me. it's a hit or miss thing. this new problem is really pissing me off. I am going to rip it apart next week and clean and tune everything, and flash it back up. The sad part is when it works it's the fastest thing out there. But the most I've ever loaded without a jam of some sort is only a few hundred rounds, even with that I've still managed a best of 2200 rounds in an hour. So I'll put up with the piece of crap until someone finally designs something better and puts it on the market. I'd like an auto indexing RCBS Pro2000 with case and bullet feeder. Using their primer strip system and powder measure setup. those two things alone are a billion times better than either of the Dillon versions. If I had the expertise to design one I'd do it, but I can't even draw a square with straight sides let alone design something. But I can tell when something is lacking that's for sure.

Gunsmoke-thanks for contributing something useful to the thread.

For what it's worth I have a 650 and a 1050.... The 1050 goes back 12-13 years.... I can't evn gues how many reloads it has produced.
The only problem with either machine is my arm, it seems to run out faster and faster as I get older....
I have owned a number of progressives machines, Dillon is tops, service is beyond reproach....
