Inglis Black Leather Holster Belt

The only ones who had a black holster for the Browning were the MPs.. Now you need to be a little more specific as to my knowlege there have been four. the first is a drop down flap holster( before my time) this was changed slightly by adding a swivel in the drop tang that would enable it to rotate against your leg when you were in the patrol car. There was a mag pouch that was integrated in the rear of the holster. Some of us used a metal mag sleeve from a green combat holster in there so it would help hold its shape. Some guys would cut the inner flap so when you lifted the top flap you could draw easier. These holsters had what i would call a level zero retention as often the gun would fall out just getting out of the car. They were worn with a sam brown rig although i have never seen anyone wear the cross strap. At one time they were polished with boot polish but that used to dirty the tan uniforms so they were coated with leather luster which used to make em shine for a bit but it would eventually crack and look like crap.
In the early 90s they went to a Case tech holster in either the standard or low ride configuration. The low rides were okay but the Use Of Force guys would rip em right off the drop tang as the screws were made of white metal .. course they never got mine.. After I heard about the first guy i replaced all the screws with stainless steel ones.

I hated the flimsey belts that were issued so i bought a heavy duty one that flexed a whole lot less than the issued one.

BrockPython,
I have what Law in his book "Inglis Diamond, The Canadian High Power Pistol" on page 198, figure 272 "the Tpye 3 double-flap leather holster, which incorporated a swivel device.". Mine has a 1990 date on it.
What type of belt did you buy?

Well Wizard

I just checked my old duty rig and there is no name on it. Quite honestly I only went to the sturdier belt when we went to the new open holsters. The browning fits in that "widowmaker" (what we called them) so loosely with no retention the issued belt was fine.

Its funny as hell when we all started wearing the open holsters we would get hassled at the Mess Saying you can't come in here armed.. when we had the flap holsters everyone figured we walked around with empty holsters.

It wasn't long after we converted to the Sig 225 with all nylon Safariland gear. We are now in the process of selecting a new pistol to replace the Sig.

I don't see the optional donut holder on MCpl Tourout's belt! Wait... How many MPs does it take to arrest a.... Just kidding... Some of the nicest folks who told us to turn the party down were MPs!!

From a Rubber Head to all the Meat Heads Merry Christmas!!

Weren't the sam browne belts and straps made in montreal? I was told that the manufactor is still in business. I bought lots of the black holsters in new condition, but not many of the belts and straps were available. Did find some.
