Yes, I know. I was referring to all the other guys on here who seem
to have Inglis Hi-Powers. How did they get them?

Where they sold for surplus years ago?

Many countrys bought Inglis pistols from Canada and subsequently surplused them when they were no longer needed.
I've got New Zealand,Belgium and Chinese surplus Inglis pistols.

I would guess that at some point Canada must have sold some that went directly to the surplus market as well.
There are also "lunch box" Inglis' around (parts stolen from the factory and then put together at home)
The original decaled ones (like stencollectors) are a mystery to me as they must have been near new when sold on the market (I'm looking to buy one of these BTW ;) pls send PM)

I'm not sure what the source of these new/nearly new ones are. I have had 3 of them up to now. My first one still had grease in the action, but had been fired by someone at least once, and not cleaned. A near mint Inglis with a matching sewer pipe barrel.
You don't want to know what the fate of that one was.

From talking to the "old-timers" I believe that some were sold under the aucpices of the DCRA and as "beyond repair" by the military to members.

The rest were just plain old "scrounged"....

Inglis HP

I have a mint Inglis that shoots very well and was produced in December 1944. It was issued to a Canadian Army officer, I believe, who kept it or bought it after his service. I bought it from his estate via P&D in Edmonton. The pistol is legally registered to me by the CFC, so I'm assuming that the officer did indeed purchase it and not just illegally keep it as a "vet bring-back".

Actually my friend, pretty much nobody cared where it came from until about 35 years ago.

Unfortunately the desert sand is hard on them. Even the real minty few we had over there last year aged 50 yrs in 6 months. I even saw one on a chinese contract frame with cut for the shoulder stock with maple leaf sticker. Let there be no doubt we will never be allowed to but these surplus from the Canadian government as all firearms must be smelted after the "destroyed" C1a1 fiasco of the eighties.

Heres mine if you havent seen it yet

Beauties Arn't they. Hard to believe they were used in WWII and still around. I remember when I was first in the army over in Germany as a pte. And I was the driver for our recce officer. We were at a shooting range and he and all the units officers and senior NCO'S were playing around with their browings. Well the Lieut, asked me if I wanted to shoot his 9mil. Of course I wanted too. He warned me though that because the 9mm was his personal weapon and mine was the C7, that I probably would not shoot it as good as him. Well lets just put it this way, I put all 13 rounds in the black at 25 yards. Slightly blowing away him and anybody else on the range that day. Needless to say the RSM was impressed. I never shot a pistol before that day. Also note, I witnessed some individuals not even hit paper that day.. Browning 9mm Hi power is very accruate in the right individuals hands. I have video of me putting 16 rounds in black at 50 meters with a CZ-75 from the kneeling posn two handed combat grip. Loved that gun.
