Ingot moulds??

I recall that business about the ingot mold getting hot - I think mine was RCBS brand - my recollection was a good sized cookie sheet on table - then a towel folded up - soaked with water - to set that mold on - as if the water sucked out the heat from that mold, without catching that towel on fire. But need to pay attention - normally water plus molten lead invites visits from "tinsel fairy", so do not "slop" molten lead onto that water!!!

Absolutely correct Potashminer!.. I have done the "wet towel trick" also to help cool down Aluminum molds as well with I start getting "Frosty" bullets , touching the mold on a wet towel to cool the mold slightlycdoes work..Have set the Ingot mold on the wet towel as well- it helps... But oh yes! Watch out for water around the Casting Pot and any moisture possibly finding it's way into the mold.. I was with a fellow casting doing some Casting outside underneath an overhead Deck... It had rained the night before and one errant drop of water made a direct hit into the Pot of Alloy.. Ka-pow! Sounded like a firecracker going off and hot lead flew out.. We got stung but not badly burned , thanks goodness we had eye protection on!.. Casting is noting to get complacent over , no matter how much you have done.

A bit on molten lead hitting a moistened towel doesn’t do much; its not like getting any amount of water into your lead pot under the surface. You can hedge your bets by folding the towel to be slightly smaller than the ingot tray as well.

I routinely have a damp cloth on the bench for cooling over-heated moulds; which happens even when using two moulds at once.

When I started water quenching bullets, people acted like I was suicidal; but it seems like everyone does that now
