Initial XCR Range Report

for sure qyv. I was in at P&D today and showed my rifle off to scott. he had mentioned you were in there. There is slight movement between my upper and lower, but not enough to bother me. The problem i have is that there is nowhere to mount a sling on the front of the rifle. No biggie, I will drill+tap the side quad rail for a sling swivel.

Out shooting today, the rifle ran flawlessly. I am going to take it apart tomorrow and go to gas setting 3 or 2 and see how it runs. I was out shooting gophers by myself, so I shot from the truck. Saftey nazis are gonna love this, I accidentally shot my driver's side mirror off. lol, it scared the s**t out of me.

I won't be able to go to the service match, as I have to box at noon.

I knew I shoulda went to P&D today! Ive seen photos of rail-mount swivels, but haven't actually seen any. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about a sling yet. Scott mentioned the same drill/tap idea to me, it does look like there is enough material at the front of the rail to make it work. It you do it let us all know how it turns out.

Ya, the upper/lower movement is very small. It's the only real annoyance I have on the rifle though, everything else is sweet! I've been thinking about making a little shim or something, we'll see.

Hehe, oh, and when we go gopher blasting, remind me to stay away from your truck :p

QYV with the movement between the upper and lower is there any way to make up a rubber or poly wedge like the ones for the AR. You might have to put it in a different place, just something reasonably durable to keep pressure on both and stop the movement when shooting.
If you go after some gophers with Throttle Monkey, maybe take his truck and not yours, yours probably has both mirrors still.

qyv- i will let you know. I was thinking of making a small vee block to act as a shim , because there isn't enough room in the middle of the rail. I will make a couple of em, and if it works, you can have one too, and any other xcr owners for that matter. cheers

sweet, maybe I won't have to drill+ tap after all. redleg, the falcon one looks like it needs drilling and tapping of the rail. can you confirm this?

Sounds good, let me know how it goes.

2nd outing

Had the XCR out for the service rifle match on Sunday at Spruce Grove, what an awesome day of shooting despite the less than stellar weather.

Ran the XCR though the 40 round course of fire without a hiccup, save one more bolt hold open failure. Because my mind was on the match I once again forgot to note what mag caused the problem! Until I start tracking which mag(s) are causing the problem I will not be holding this against the rifle. I shot a 91/200 in the match, my best so far (this was my 3rd). My score could have easily been 15+ points higher but I am still getting used to the two-stage trigger. I can remember at least 4 occasions where I blew through both stages while trying to only squeeze the first! Chalk that up to inexperience, and cold fingers, on my part.

After the match I went to the 100m range with finished off the break in 300 rounds. Several curious bystanders graciously volunteered to shoot a mag or two to help me out! ;)

Afterwards I took the rifle apart to take a look inside. Other than a bit of fouling on the piston you could not even tell the gun had been fired, thats how clean it was inside! :D

Next up is turning the gas valve down to position 2 and taking it out to test. If what I read in the intarwebs is true, setting 2 should provide even less recoil and less violent ejection and still operate with 100% reliability (with the possible exception of Wolf ammo).

RE: Photos: Yes there will be photos, I'm just not at home for a few weeks so don't have anywhere to download the pics from the camera.

qyv- i got lazy. I went and ordered the gg&g swivel mount posted by soldier506.

Sounds like I missed a good time at the service rifle match!

I took mine apart, and it stays much much cleaner than my AR. I am going to fiddle with the gas setting as well. Is the play between upper and lower still bothering you?

No, they clamp on the rails.

Naw, it's not really bothering me, I just wanted to make sure it was normal for the XCR. Though I think I will see what I can do about making some sort or shim.

So it's been a couple months. How are you XCR owners liking your guns? Are they still the cat's a$$ or has the initial charm worn off?

Aside from QYV's other post about ejection problems, have there been any other growing pains? Anybody managed to get a folding stock?

It sounds like the 6.8 conversion kit is ready (down south anyway). Just wondering when we'll see more of them up here.

Here is a question for ya'll. I don't have a AR-15 and I was planning on getting a .223/5.56 for ranging. Is it worth it to get this gun? and do the convert to 6.8 SPC? I hear you can get the barrels in the states and since they are not a registered part of the rifle (stamp serial is on the receiver) you should be able to just get one shipped... no?

I guess they are working on a 6.8 and 7.62x39 kit. I love my XCR. Here's some pics for aiwa.
