I picked up some nifty decoys including some easy homemade ones http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=687534

Here's pics and construction details of the innertube decoys:

Head construction plan. If I was to make some I'd call this the, "Sentry", and also make a bunch of feeding type heads.

You could also just use thumbtacks for the eyes if that's cheaper?

A view of the bottom of the head showing the protruding rod and how it's screwed on.

Also came across a smaller one...with paint maybe a duck decoy???

Hope this is what you need to make some for yourself if you wish. Should you need any other dimensions or anything, just pm me.
Best of luck.

Good thread. I made a couple dozen of those way back in the 1970's. Still have them up in the rafters of the shed. Shot a load of geese over them back in the day. I think I got the idea and pattern out of an old Field & Stream magazine. People were much more industrious back when WS or Cabelas were not around the corner.

I have about one hundred of these, the only difference mine are ducks. They havnt got feathers on them and they dont move like the new ones and worse yet the damn things work. These ones also came with a metal rod to slide the decoy heads on for transporting.Nice find Suka.

Was looking forward to this thread when I saw your other one with the haul you managed to obtain :D

Thanks! Think these will make a nifty winter project for me.

What I like most about the decoys of a bygone era is just that, they are bygone!:p

Seriously though. We have all hunted over that kind of stuff, it was all that was available at one time. You don't need Fully Flocked sculpted Artistry molded in plastic to kill birds but I am not afraid to say after almost 35 years of waterfowling that birds do decoy better to todays decoys. I never had birds walking around in the decoys feeding while trying to land the next flock years back. If the birds were within shooting range they noticed the poor quality decoys and recognised they were not real and started to beat a hasty retreat while we scrambled to get on them in time before an in range opportunity was gone. We accomplished getting them within range but the majority of the time it was max range. I think as a keepsake those things are awesome but to be honest I sure as heck would not run out and make any of them to include in my spread. Just my opinion but hey, great find if you like them. Hope you kill some birds over them this coming fall.
