I know these are old videos and reposts, I have seen them here before.

Just wanted to know if anyone here actually tried these two tricks:

reloading a primer with strike anywhere match sticks

glue stick 45acp propelled by a rifle primer only

I'm interested in both:)

"...glue stick 45acp..." It'd make an unholy mess in the barrel. The Quick Draw guys use wax with a primer.
"...reloading a primer..." It'd be unreliable at best. Supposedly one of the paranoid survivalist 'field expedient' things.

so have you tried it?
have you even checked the glue stick video? he shoots it and we can clearly see the rifling on it, quite amazing

Actually, glue does not foul the barrel at all, and its reasonably accurate out to 10 feet or so.

Some of the cast bullet forums have whole sections on cast bullets using a glue gun. That and wax are both popular with the quickdraw people. Years ago I shot wax out of a 38 Webley using a hanging blanket as a backstop in the basement.

Often they have the case modified to use shotgun primers and leave out the powder. You usually have to drill out the flash hole when using regular primers or they start to back out and jam the cylinder.

This is really neat stuff.. find of a "last resort" type of thing, lol... but very interesting nevertheless. I think I'll actually try to make some recycled primers and see how this works. Intriguing.

:)

By the way, does anyone know what are the basic chemical elements in that match-head primer compound that make it go bang? Maybe the chemicals are much cheaper than buying a box of strike anywhere matches, lol (in most probability). If the price was right and one had plenty of time on their hands, this could actually be fun...

I think you're right. Still, it never hurts to be aware. I used to think that running hydraulic tools using sea water in lieu of hydraulic oil was nothing but a stretch to support an interesting yarn until I actually had to do it. More a matter of pragmatism than paranoia, the decision is nevertheless easier when you don't own the tools :D.

I've pushed a primed 45-7= case through a block of paraffin and fired that. Worked fine.
Didn't do it enough to say what it was like for accuracy.
obviously, clean your barrel after these type of experiments, and certainly before firing the real stuff.
