Input needed: Rock Island Armory 1911 tactical

Hi all,

Just wanted some input on the RIA 1911 tactical model.

Armseast has them at 660$ or 699$ for the nickel finish

Wondering if it's better to wait for the Norinco sport models at 350$ (coming in june) or if the STI Spartan has really more for the money (820$).

I wouldn't call a full-length guide rod "tactical", but you could order a regular guide rod and recoil spring plug from Brownell's for much less than the cost of adding a beavertail grip safety, ambi safety, and Novak sights to the base model.

I do like the absence of front slide serrations.

Only thing I did with mine was change the grips. It's been a reliable and accurate shooter since day one.

I'd own/shoot a 1911 built in the Phillipines in a heartbeat, they're very serious about the 1911 over there (almost religious) and know what it takes to make them work. Some of the custom work done there is incredible. There's a reason STI sources the Spartan from the same maker.
