So I am deciding on an AR, seeing as I came into 1500 rounds of 223, I suppose I should pick one up. ;) My issue lies with the RAS systems out there. I am deciding between a Stag with a KAC RAS, and the LMT MRP setup. My indecision is due to my despise for 'play' in any part of anything I own. Some of the rail systems I have handled had movement or sloppiness in them, and it's one of those things that annoys me, hence my consideration of LMT. I have not handled the KAC system, or other higher end ones for that matter.

Opinions on rail choices? Or should I jump on an MRP?

What did you handle that had play in it?

Any of the current major FF rails should have NO play in them, pick your maker, Troy, Midwest, KAC, Larue, DD, etc, etc.

I've got drop in rails from Samson on a gun that have no play in them. Solid FF rails are easy.

The KAC RAS is nice because it doesn't require any permanent alterations to your AR. The top rail mounts to the barrel nut and provides a stable mount even for optics. The bottom rail is simply held by the slip ring and there might be some play, but that's intended since the bottom rail does not need to be precise.

IMO the majority of people don't need a RAS.

If you still gotta look cool, than most of the ones out there will suit you just fine.

Are you looking to free float your barrel? Or just looking for a rail to hang stuff on?

I want the rail up top to mount optics on, and I would like to mount lip up front and rear sights as well. This is where my concern over sloppiness comes in, I don't want the front sight to be wobbly. Free float is another advantage of the MRP, as well as the possibiulty of geting an 18" barrel to swap in for longer distances.

Also, I don't 'need' to hang toys off the rail, but a vertical foregrip is comfy for me, as I found on my CX4. Plus I do like the aesthetics. :D
