Hello All,


After much searching and reading of posts here in the Red rifle section, I still am left a little uncertain as to the general consensus of opinion here on CGN on this guns, so I figured I should ask it here. Perhaps this thread my become helpful to others who are also shopping.


I am going to purchase some type of restricted 7.62 x 39 compact, by that I mean a short barrel and folding stock. At this point I am leaning to the CSA model, mostly due to availability and included accessories.

Top contenders are of course the CSA, FSN, and CZ. As far as I have established at this point, all of these models can interchange magazines, and many of the same accessories.


I would really appreciate some input from those few people out their who either own two or more of these guns, or have good knowledge of the different pro's and con's of each.


Any feed back is appreciated.

There are no "compact" models for sale in Canada, yet. There are two carbines, the CSA and the FSN-01K, both with 11-12" barrels.

The forthcoming CSA compact, is supposed to have a 7.5" barrel, if and when it shows up.
 
I like my CSA. It runs well and is accurate enough for my purposes. It had a canted front sight when new, I fixed it myself.

X2 on the Dlask convert.
Got mine from Marstar and got a $1 handgun to boot.
Then handed the rifle over to Dlask & this is what happened;

Still waiting for Arma-Coat to come back from Vaction for a little beautifaction treatment ;)
 
the csa carbine is fantastic. I take this out with me EVERY time i hit the range. My non restriced cz is always being left, but maybe not for long right D!!!

No matter what I buy I'm now compelled to send it to Dlask and spend more money, what did you guys pay for them to "do their thing"?

It cost me about the same as it would for me to buy a CSA rifle new. Depends on what type of deal you get on the rifle before you send it into them.

Edit: Here's an updated pic of my rifle. I can't find an optic mount I trust to hold zero without needing a pry bar to remove it so I'm running irons.
Neit Ambi mag release.

Fab furniture (not happy, but it will do for now)

The new CSA's from North Silva are $900 MSRP, $100 less than from Wolverine.

Clobb, did you cut the top off your sight hood? Do you have to sight through a groove in the Fab handguard?

Did you cut that mag down yourself or have someone do it???

When Joe was doing the barrel swap for me I made him ditch the HK style front sight for the AK style 1. Also I got ride of the FSN gas block and slaped on the VZ style 1. As for slapping an optic on this I can't wait for that scout mount that B.C. Tactical has been teasing us with. So I can slap a MRDS on it. Also have you tried shooting this out at 200 meter's yet? OMG so much fun! Escpecaily with an 8 inch gong!
