Hello All

I am looking at picking up the Weatherby SA-08 12 gauge 28"

I am looking for input from people who have owned or shot this Gun.
I know there are lots of other Choices out there but right now i am interested in this one!

What have you liked or disliked about this Shotgun what are some things that you need to consider with it?

I liked the SA08 a lot. I did however go with the PA08 instead. A pump fit my needs better and cost a whole lot less to boot!

I think the Weatherby's are the best value in shotguns. Chromed barrels/bolts, drop out trigger groups, nice wood all at a very fair price. What's not to love?

Two cautions: 1) there isn't much of an aftermarket parts ecosystem. If you're looking something to mod up or make it tacticool, look elsewhere. 2) The Upland has beautiful wood but no sling swivel studs. I bought the front stud (it fits on the mag tube cap) while in the US and had my local smith install the rear stud.

I went with the PA08 because I wanted the ability to put an 18.5" barrel on for home defense. The PA08TR barrel will fit the regular PA08. The SA08 does not have that option.

Jennings Outdoor Sports in Pritchard BC is their west coast warranty rep. You may want to talk to him about ordering replacement parts and the like...he struck me as kinda weird though.

Not looking to Pimp out my Shotgun just looking for an alround usable semi to shot targets and Clays every once and awhile with some friends.

Dont have a 12 gauge and figure its about time to add one to the collection!

You really can't go wrong with these guns as they are based on the beretta a-300 series of guns, which were very reliable and simple to maintain.

You really can't go wrong with these guns as they are based on the beretta a-300 series of guns, which were very reliable and simple to maintain.

I have a 590 Persuader 20" that I am going to thread a choke in. A used Mossberg 500 with ribbed barrel/full choke would do the job nicely.

There are tons of parts and mods for Mossbergs. Dual extractor is better too.
 
I have owned a SA-08 for a few years now and for the price there is no better option IMHO. It has worked flawlessly and maintainence is easy. Also there are the 2 shims to fine tune the shotgun depending on the type od ammo you are using. I would agree with Pubb that the only downside is the inability to acess a shorter barrel for some of the tactical applications.

I recently bought this same gun. Started out looking at the Reminton 870, but with the help of Liam at Wholesale Sports in Langley walked out with this gun. Haver only been able to shoot 2 boxes of target loads mthrough it so far, but am happy with the gun for what little I have shot it.

I bought my wife the youth 24" inch SA-08 it only comes in 20 gauge. Just under 400 rounds of target ammo with no fates or jams. Still haven't cleaned it and it still functions perfectly. I do agree it is a light gun that doesn't soak a lot of recoil. For my wife it occasionally bruises her but doesn't when she wears a sweater. My opinion is I would buy one for myself if I didn't have a mossberg 930.

Ive been debating a new pump as well - so far I am kinda liking what i hear about the weatherby. Wonder if I should get the slug barrel as well...
 
Bought the SA-08, took it for a duck hunt, it was sensational!! Can't wait to take it out for geese. So far 100 rounds and only the first round stovepiped likely because it was just breaking the gun in. I was able to slap it out with my hand in a single swipe. I absolutely love this shotgun!!
 
My uncle owns an SA-08... I've shot hundreds of shells on the trap range, it shoulders well and points great. That being said, I've noticed my uncle put 2 pieces of black electrical tape to keep a pin in the body that works its way loose.... I've seen the same trick done to one other Weatherby at the gun club.
 
PA-08 is cheap and ultra-reliable. Have only heard/read great things about the SA-08. One of the best bang:buck on the market now. Made in Turkey, but owning one leads me to believe that the quality control is pretty good.

everyweekend from mid sept to mid dec and never a ftf fte or anything. i love mine and it is very reliable if set up properly. the only pain is the dual gas system, and while it makes it really reliable it also makes it so that if you want to shoot ducks in the morning and grouse in the evening you gotta switch your piston if shooting different ammo. I just shoot #2 3 inch 1 1/8 oz rem sportsmans at everything and they seem to work good.

Mine has seen some pretty bad conditions , it has been soaking wet in the bottom of a canoe then shot at ducks with no hiccups. Its pretty simple to take apart too.

I have put THOUSANDS of rounds out at clays. I have had a number of FTE, but for the money, it is a GREAT deal.
I would not hesitate to buy another one!
All I have shot through it, are trap loads.
