I didn't listen to the commentary. Did he mention the gun in the video is something cobbled together using a parts kit? It is not an original Mk. III.

There's an obvious non factory weld in front of the rear sight. Way too crude for even a STEN. :)

Holding the magazine is nothing to do with deforming the magazine lips. Unless the fit is so poor that the bolt could strike the magazine.
 
Correct, I'm sure the Brits designed it that way, so in an emergency our soldiers could use German mags and ammo in their Stens, but not the other way around.

Yes the Commonwealth cannelure on the casing is finer then the German 9mm casing so the extractor of a Sten gun can grip and extract a German casing but the German MP40 extractor cannot pull out a Brit casing.

A blow back operated gun will work fine without an extractor. Keep the cleaning rod handy. :)
