Insane price for Mosins rifles

a few years back crappy tire had the Mosins for 189 bucks! should have bought a bunch I knew the price would go up on them
SKSs have definitely gone up though too, Milarm had a boxing day sale a few years ago for 220 for the SKS plus a crate of ammo!
Your spending 300 plus for a decent SKS these days

I don't notice SKS's going up much, great rifle, def. worth more, but still see many for $200 all the time. Exceptional examples I've seen asking $300/$350..not sure if they are selling though. Chinese SKS's have actually went down! A year ago they were alwayz more then Russian, $275/300 on EE, now some stores are selling them currently for $209.

thank the US and their trade sanctions on russian arms. that put a real squeeze on them in the first place. i bought mine at FOC for 380$ last year. added 880 rds for another 400 ish. love shooting it.

The poor little sks still hasnt done much,,,,can still get them on the EE for $150 and up.
I have buddys that bought crates of them expecting to cash in. Now their trying to sell them in a Dead Market.
Its a heck of a good rifle for Peanuts.
They are a good deal for the money..

Hopefully the SKS will still be available for a while yet, they are one of the most dependable semis out there in my opinion. Perhaps not the tightest shooting semi, but it always works.

I just wish interammo could get the baikal makarovs in again.
Those were great little pistols. Dirt cheap. Crazy accurate. Extremely reliable.
I never would have sold mine but ammo became hard to find and stupid pricey after the import sanctions on Russian hardware.

Too true brother.
I went back to it after wasting a lot of disappointing time and money with modern semi auto NR rifles.
Good old 200 dollar Chinese SKS with tech sights never lets me down!

Better than the stock market. Guy could make a killing if he found a stash and no doubt there are still some out there. :)

Grizz

You have to take into account a 2% to 3% annual inflation rate and the 8th wonder of the world: compound interest. Nobody ever retired off of buying and holding milsurps. If you invested 300$ in a TFSA at the annual average growth rate of 9.7% (the 100 year stock market average) in a good passive index ETF, in 20 years you would have 1900$. 25 years you would have 3000$. In 30 years you would have 4800$. In 35 years you would have 7600$. All of this is tax free. None of my milsurps ever pay me any dividends. If you want to make a killing just buy shares every month and watch it grow. None of my 3 milsurps (all original) were acquired for capital appreciation although they will increase in value over time. If my 1886 Winchester lever gun in 45-70 appreciated at 9% and if it was purchased in 1900 for 20$, it would be worth 920,000$ today.

It's possible that some of those lower-price SKS were of a lower "grade"... :yingyang:

Thats very true, the SKS's that were available 7-10 years ago were of much higher quality than the latter versions that are on the market.
They were nicley blued, with much better wood on them.

Not just the Mosins...

Haven’t been checking out the Milsurp EE for awhile now. Just took a look today, cruising for a K98 again, I’m happy with a nice Yugo. Man, the prices are all over the board... matching #s prices for mixmasters. I’m just looking for a nice shooter.

At these prices I’m almost better off buying a Husqvarna with a FN made C-ring military pattern M98 action. Strip to the action and build one of it... make it something cool like a 500 Jeffery Kar98k!!! Nah. I’d probably go with .308... 8x57... hmmm 7x57? Put some Swedish target sights on it and your rolling.

Nope Turdo is going to take your SKS on you....:(

Maybe, no big loss though.

Back on topic, I'm not so sure these Mosin prices are unreasonable. I'm seeing 3-500$ and from what I've heard some of these shipments were much higher quality guns (retailing around 5). The ones we were getting for 150 were mostly quite rough.
