I am taking care of some necks that I marred during turning. No amount of cleaning or different lubes have helped.

I am using scotchbright on the drill press and scrubbing until I feel no more edges or defects with a pick.

Are other folks doing similar treatments? Having any issues?

The left case shows the gouges made that you can feel with a pick or screw driver.

The right is after using scotchbrite on the drill. The gouges can no longer be felt with a pick, some cases are worse and correcting this is very time consuming.

I like to use an old cleaning rod with either an old bronze or vinyl brush on the end. Cleans them up real nice. I use a old 30cal brush, and I'm able to clean my 243, 308, 7mm rm, and 300wm.

Found the cause of the marring but now not the cause of the deposit on the pilot.

Guess a good polish to fix the pilot.

Didn't see it before as the debris and dirt had covered it.
