Insite Arms introducing the "Heathen" Muzzle Brake

I'd appreciate the update on your findings.

I hope to get my barrel threaded on soonish and will be running a brake afterwards. Was planning on the APA, but as mentioned, it's nice to have CDN options.

I'm just back from the northern wilds, I'll hopefully have some results this week.
I shoot prone mostly, and the apa pretty much picks up a handful of sand/dirt and throws it in my face, range bag, ammo boxes etc. every time I send a round, and makes eye protection an absolute necessity.
The way the baffles are laid out on the Insite brake, the first baffle is designed to disrupt the flow of gases off of the more aggressively angled baffles further out from it, keeping the gas from coming straight back to you, but maintaining the advantages of sharply angled baffles.
We will see how it works in practical application.

I finally got out today to do some testing.
I ran the apa little bastard, the insite brake and bare muzzle.
Shooting for groups at 300 yards off the bench with an lra bipod and sap rear bag. Rifle is a 6xc in an aI ax chassis running 105 hybrids.
Started with the apa. Knew what to expect as it's been on the 6mm for some time now.
It just goes boom, little to no rearward recoil. Sights came off the point of aim by about 6-8" upwards. The downside to the apa is that it blinds me if I'm not using eye protection, as I wear contacts. There's enough blast coming straight back to shift my contacts on my eyeball. Also when shooting prone, or near shrubbery, it's like someone grabbing a handful of dirt and throwing it in your face/action. I've literally had an inch of dirt in the bottom of my ammo box from having it beside me while shooting prone. Also when shooting from the bench, as I was today, it'll tear up your data book or any other soft goods you have on the bench.
So the apa has outstanding recoil reduction, but does have a tiny bit of vertical hop on my setup, and is "blasty" as hell. You are very aware that you're running a brake.

The insite "heathen" was up next.
I'd say it's about 95% of the recoil reduction of the apa little bastard. Still much more effective than my surefire/lantac/Pws/grizzly brakes for raw recoil reduction. It was perfect on my setup for vertical and horizontal shift, I didn't see any movement from point of aim through the scope. Just bang, little bump, and I could watch the hole being printed. Pretty cool.
Biggest thing though was that I forgot I was running a brake after a few mags. My data book was still on the bench and not torn, my eyes were clear and not dried out.
It'll be interesting to try prone once it dries up out there. Judging by the lack of perceived blast I've got high expectations for not eating dirt with every shot fired.

Finally, the bare muzzle was actually the most revealing.
There was a bunch more recoil than I expected from a heavy 6mm, both brakes are obviously extremely effective. And most telling of all, from a blast perspective, it was the same as the insite brake.

I'm sure both brakes suck to sit beside, but one is much more pleasant to be behind, and gives up nothing in performance. My apa is for sale. Nicely done insite, I see these becoming very popular with the prs dudes.

I may have to get one of these before my first PRS match in may. Can't use it for BCRA, but whatever. Looking at the video, there is zero blast coming back really cool.

What's the diameter of the crown of your barrel and what threads did you need?

Received mine today, looks very well put together.

I should have it out on Thursday and I will try to get some more comparison footage.

This is how it looks on a Rem Sendero contour:.

I wanted APA Little B for my RPR but after calling Insite arms to order one they told me about this one since they didn't have any APA in stock. After reading the reviews on here I decided to choose Heathen instead.
Tried it today while sighting in my RPR in 6.5. I never used brakes for any of my rifles before so I can't compare it to any other ones. What I can says that I love it. Recoil comparison to no brake was significant. Shot only at 100m with Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 prone. At 10 power at 100m it was very hard to spot the impact unless shooting on bright steel target. With the brake on I could see impact on steel at 24 power clearly at the same range. I tried also to take hearing protection of too. Not a good idea, it is pretty darn loud, but that must be the same with most brakes out there. I had the muzzle about a foot in front the shooting mat, about 8 inches above fine gravel. There was no dust or sand splashing in my face or on the mat at all. After 2 boxes of ammo the mat was still perfectly clean. It screws on and tighten pretty easily by hand and after 40 rounds it did not move at all.

The 30 cal would not work for the 338 , but we can provide you with a brake for the 338
I will send details to your email
thanks
