Inspire me with your 300 win mag builds

Don't get bent out of shape about factory ammo vs reloads. Yeah good reloads will probably be a bit better than good match ammo. But if you're alright buying good ammo. And doing some testing to figure out what your gunikes. Then do that.
Tons of people shoot factory match ammo.
Look at the military for instance. All those world records. I bet not a single one of them was hand loaded ammo.
I've seen a PGW coyote shoot 3 different factory ammo types in sub .5moa groups.

I reload for every centerfire cartridge I own (many), it's always worth it for both price and quality. Being able to select exactly the projectile you want to use for the type of shooting you plan to do, then building a load that works well in the rifle is half the fun of shooting... well maybe not half :p

I too reload for all of my rifles. But I also think telling a guy not to buy a nice gun because he doesn't reload is ridiculous. If someone wants to find and buy good ammo for a gun than have at it.
If someone can afford a custom rifle they can probably afford to reload. That doesn't mean they have the time, the space, or the desire.
IMO buy the nicest gun you want to. Feedit whatever ammo you want to. If it produces results that you the owner are happy with. Then whatelse matters?

Not to mention that the difference between a .5 and .75moa rifle in actual field conditions is virtually indistinguishable if the shooter is doing their job.

Agreed,
While I'm very against seeing someone buy a nice rifle and then feed it Norinco or other cheap surplus since I hate to see a nice barrel's life wasted running garbage ammo. It is up to each individual to decide what rifle they want and can afford and to feed it whatever they want. Tailored handloads are always the best food for a rifle but very good groups can be had if someone is willing to spend the money on premium factory ammo.
The part that bothers me the most is reading the threads where a shooter is complaining about the accuracy of their rifle and blaming the rifle then you find out 30 posts into the thread that they are running surplus FMJ.

Factory ammo has come on a lot in the last 10 years alone, but if you are going to drop $5k+ on a rifle in 300WINMAG in the pursuit of accuracy you need to reload to reach the maximum potential.

Yes, you can buy match rounds which will be reasonably consistent, but there is still likely more to be achieved with a carefully developed reloaded round.

Hornady 178 amax will give us 5 rd sub .500 on our truncated 300 win reamer. Think the best is reloads but if money isant an issue and you just wanna buy factory ammo there is some good stuff out there.

I feel confident my MRAD can hang with any 300WM when it comes to asthetics, and she is no slouch at launching lead either.

When I buy a rifle for which there is match-grade factory ammo available I usually like to buy a box or two to use as a benchmark and then I like to handload to a better standard. Generally, a tailored load will work better than even the best factory.

Sound approach. I also leave the price sticker in place on the pre-rolled ammo pack to make me feel better too!

We have an old ruger zytel m77 'all weather' bolt in 300 win that gives us consistent 3-shot 1 1/2" groupings with the nosler factory 180 grain accubond ammo.
Leupold vx2 3-9x40mm on top.
The gun resides in the back of the truck 12 mos a year.
It never develops a single spot of rust or a blemish from being stored in the truck.
When we're not hunting the gun is stored trigger locked in a case and the bolt is locked in our metal ammo box which is kept in the house when the truck is unoccupied.
That rifle is not an expensivei custom build. It just performs like one.

Sounds like a fine truck gun or hunting gun but any rifle of mine that shoots 1.5 inch 3 shot groups would be going in the garbage or at least to the smith for a look.

I think I said 1.5" consistently and it might not sound impressive.
That's something either paw or I can demonstrate at the range on a daily basis with that specific m77.
Over the years we met shooters who had guns that they said would group less than 1.5"@ 100 yds all day long.
Long story short when we got to the range about 1 out of 10 could actually produce that level of accuracy.
The others had various excuses and one notable even blamed 'thermals' as his excuse for not being able to get 3 bullets within 3" of each other on the target paper.
I don't think I bothered asking him what 'thermals' were.
We did find that there was not a lot of correlation between spoken accuracy and accuracy on the target paper at a real life range.
The rifle has a timney trigger that paw installed to replace the 'stiff as a fence post' factory trigger that was typical of ruger rifles of that era.

I was being kind in my first response as maybe you wandered into this section by accident but you have decided to press the issue.

Three shot groups count for nothing and that is garbage accuracy.

Sorry for the derail OP.

Cadex does have some nice factory options and a nice 2-stage trigger. A MK13 style build would also be pretty cool.
