Install rear sights on M-1 Carbines?

Some of those german M-1's (bavarian?) have no rear sights.... can they be replaced again, or not?

How the heck did they shoot them with no rear sight anyhow?

They do have rear sights. They just adapted a sight to the bridge of the receiver in front of the handguard. They also usually milled down the dovetail where the original rear sight was located. It would take a lot of work to mount the original rear sight again - not worth it.
