I'm picking up a scope today and they want 35 bucks to install it for me. Isn't this something I could do myself for free? I don't have any experience with this, so would it be a good idea to let them do it?

Thanks

If it's your first scope mounting and you take care, you should have no problem. Most important is to get clearance under all parts of the scope except for the two mount contact points , make sure your bolt handle is clear through its whole travel, fasten all screws sufficiently to eliminate recoil induced movement. Bore sighting with a device is over rated. Set a target at 25 yds on a large plain paper 2' square, shoot, move your reticle accordingly. Then place your target at the distance you wish to sight in for and do the fine adjustment.
After mounting and sighting your 1st FA, confidence will build. However if you needed to ask this you may want to consider having the service done.

dryfire provided you with some good advice. If you are a visual learner then check out youtube. There are plenty of videos on there to show you how it's done.

x2 on boresighters.... I hate them.

Where are you located? I bet there are a few local CGNers who would help you out for a coffe or beer. If you are around Calgary, PM me and I will do it.

I would do it yourself. As mentioned, check youtube for videos. Really not that hard once you've done it a time or two, plus then it gets mounted right as far as eye relief for you goes and what not.

I agree with the no bore sighting posts as well. Shoot at 25 yards, sight in for an inch low or so and you should be pretty close at 100. Remember, you need to move the turrets 4x as much at 25 yards to go an inch as you would at 100.

Haha, very observant of you. Yeah I left it to them to do. But I don't think they are going to charge me. We will see when I pick it up tomorrow.

I guess I probably just should of checked out youtube like i do for most things. I just figured with all the "precision" involved I should let them get me started lol.

Thanks guys.

Go to Youtube, find:how to mount scope on rifle
check out Mike of CS tactical, that a good clip on mounting scope!

I wouldn't let some of those guys at some of these gun shops mount my scope if they paid me $35 or $50 or $1000.......... ok, maybe for a thousand ;)
