I put a VQ bolt handle in my 10/22. After I get it back together, I notice that it's incredibly stiff. 5x stiffer than the original Ruger handle.

I'm assuming that part of the problem is the increased leverage I now have with the longer handle itself, but this is ridiculous.

I can deal with the stiffness of it no problem, but only as long as it works better than the original, but I seriously doubt that this gun will even function the way it is now.

I've tried to oil it, I worked it back and forth quite a bit. It is better now than when I first started experimenting with it, but not by much.

Anyone else had this same problem? If so, did your gun still function reliably with this part installed?

you could try to get a hold of volquartsen and ask them. Look at it compared to the stock bolt handle and see if it sits taller. Use calipers if you have any. You could sand down the top and polish the area that comes in contact with the top of the receiver. You could also polish the inside of the receiver. Those things in combination will reduce friction.

So I did a little searching about this on the internet and found that I wasn't the only one having a problem. I sent VQ an email and addressed my concerns about the part. A guy named Scott emailed me back here this afternoon and said that they are aware of the problem and they have a new, upgraded version that he wants to exchange them for.

I said that I lived in Canada and asked if the cross-border shipping was going to be an issue to which he replied "no", because it was a "warranty issue".

Should I go ahead and send these back to him or is that considered a no-no?
