Installed enhanced trigger on XCR may have an issue?

I got my enhanced kit, installed it, tested it, fired it. It works great except:

The trigger does not feel like 2 stage, it has about 1/8" play (take-up?) then a short light crisp trigger pull and fires. I am sure it is in correctly, the safety works, everything is great. Should the trigger be heavy in the first stage and light. I am not unhappy with it, shoots great now, just want to make sure something is not wrong.

Also - is it OK to dry fire these guns? I am from the old school that you never do it, but would like to know.
 
I found a partial solution. I had a set screw installed for the factory trigger adjustment (in the grip screw hole - search xcr forum for details). It was backed off, but still in there. I adjusted it until it almost hit the safety, and that remove all but about .020" of play. I could adjust the rest out, but would have to grind a small amount away to clear the safety (also recommended and encouraged on xcr forum with the trigger mod)
