Installing a muzzle brake and barrel length

I have a non-restricted CZ-858 with 18" barrel.

Am thinking of bobbing about 5" off the barrel and installing a brake.

First question: Can I do this and change registration to restricted?

Second: Since I have to cut the threads on the barrel, would it make any difference if I used a 14x1 thread or a 9/16" thread. The brake I am looking at is available in both threads and both appear to be similar in size, just a bit more than a half inch.

You can not cut any barrel shorter than 18.5" inches on a semi-auto rifle. Simple as that. Even if it is already shorter than 18.5", you can't cut it shorter than 18.5".

Close but no cigar.

The Criminal Code states that a prohibited firearm is:

a handgun with a barrel length of 105 mm or less;
a handgun designed or adapted to discharge 25 or 32 calibre ammunition;
a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make it less than 660 mm (26 inches) in overall length;
a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the barrel length less than 457 mm (18 inches) where the overall firearm length is 660 mm (26 inches) or more;

18inches, though it would be idiotic to cut past 18.5" on a semi automatic, though not illegal if you stay above 18".

I hope the barrel isn't 18", as that would make it a restricted firearm. :eek:

Also a muzzle device that is added to the end of a barrel is not counted for barrel length measurements, only OAL measurements.

I knew brake would not count for length. I was wondering if I could make it a prohib and then re-regsiter as a prohib?

So, I can buy a rifle made with a short barrel and register it as a Restricted, but I can't make esentially the same rifle by cutting a barrel to the same length and register it?

I know logic does not count. Just checking.

Nice try. Absolutely illegal... probably massive headache/hassle trying to explain your way out of this scenario.

Correct
