Does anyone know a gunsmith that could tig weld a new handle onto a bolt. I have a lawton 8000 action on my gun and was out shooting the other day. Fired a round and lifted the bolt and the handle basically came off in my hand. Sounds like this was common with Lawton actions. I can get it done in the U.S. but not sure what hassle it would be in sending it there for repairs.
Thanks

sending it down is not the problem, getting it back is the problem. Besides, it is probably best to have the whole action there for the guy doing the bolt handle to make sure the timing is perfect.

Thanks for the reply. The guy I talked to said that it would be best if he had the complete action. What is involved with getting it back?
Thanks

You basically can't. Exportation of firearms parts from the US is strictly controlled even though it is yours. I would seek out the Lawton distributor in Canada or you may just bite the bullet at get a gunsmith to silver solder or tig it in place.

Part of the problem is Lawton is no longer in buisness. So are you saying that it basically has to be re imported same is if it was a new rifle.
Thanks

If you have the original import papers it is no problem, but I would just get it welded on here. It is not rocket science. I have done a few of my own before PTG started making one piece bolts.
