Installing a Red dot sight on Norinco CQ-A 5.56

Soooo. Once again I've stumbled in to the land of interesting things that require me to gain knowledge.

Bought a red dot sight for my stock Norinco, then realized the OEM front sight will probably block it, so started looking at taking it off, and realized that there is a whole lot more than just taking it off. hoo boy.

I'm on a budget on this project, so I really just want to take it off and set it aside in case I want to go back to iron sights in the future. (why? I don't know, just don't like to limit my options).

I saw a video on chopping the top off the front sight, and didn't care for that.

See lots of commentary on getting a 'free float quad rail'. Mostly UTG and UAG are mentioned, but I can't seem to find anyone that sells them?

Also see the option of a low profile gas block, but information seems to say I should get a pinned on, not a tap screw one as that will mark/scar/damage? the barrel..... And I can't seem to find them anywhere either though. must not be searching properly?

The only thing I really want (well, right now. not sure about later) is the red dot sight. I'd like to do it as economically as possible while still keeping anything from getting damaged, or not being able to restore to OEM condition.

That seems to leave the choice between the 'free float quad rail' and the low profile pinned gas block. Unless there is some other choice that I am not aware of?

Any leads to (preferably a sponsor here) an economical version of either of those?

Vortex Spark II red dot comes with a multi height mount that allows you to have the dot on the front sight, or slightly above it. With a flip up rear sight you have a back up if your battery dies.
 
Looks like you got the issue sorted. As long as you mount the sight so that it co-witnesses (or lower third) with the front you'll be good to go. In use you won't even notice the front sight is there.

It means that you can see the sights while you're looking through the red dot. The idea is that if the battery or red dot dies, you can still see the sights and use them in a pinch without having to stop and remove the red dot.

Yup. This is what I did/do with my Bushnell ACOG clone...I cross the T with the front sight. So, if the battery dies, I can flip up the rear sight and look through the glass without issue.
