I don't have a torque wrench, just an AR all in one tool with the barrel nut wrench. Just wondering if i should really get a torque wrench to tighten the barrel nut to as close as possible to 30 ft/lb.

I never use one at work, just make sure its tight. I always tighten and loosen 3 times to insure its properly seated.

Two finger method is also relatively accurate...
Average person with Index and middle finger can only exude About 30 lbs downward pressure, you can then advance to nearest gas tube alignment slot on barrel nut.
AR's are pretty forgiving as far as torque on barrel but as mentioned before...lube up,don't go crazy tightening

Torque wrenches are cheap too

Because you need to line up the gas tube hole, you will either be below the minimum, within range, or above. So tighten snug then go next hole. Like mentioned use the 3 time sequence, tighten loosen, tighten loosen tighten.

What's the hazard when assembling dry? Corrosion?

Not really a hazard, but you get more torque with same effort with lube and taking the barrel off after years of heat will be easier. Mating aluminum and steel, the never seize will prevent galvanic corrosion. On the other hand. Certain threads that are critical that you don't want to come off. They go on dry. I won't use lube or never seize. I only use a torque wrench on stuff over 170 Ft pounds. 30 ft pounds is a girls arm pull. You might need to be a man to line up the gas tube hole with the barrel nut.

30 ft/lbis your minimum starting point. You tighten it to 30, then loosen, then tighten again to 30, then loosen, then tighten again, then line it up.

I find typically the barrel nut will line up somewhere between 40-60. In there you will find is the recommended average.
80 is max on paper. I torque wrench can come in handy in a situation where your barrel nut lines up at such a point where you are at maximum torque, at which point, it can prevent you from accidentally over torquing. I had one build where the nut lined up at bang on 80, and would of been too loose otherwise.

If you have a torque wrench, you're putting your back into it by time you reach 80. So if you can get it lined up without really having to giver, then you should be fine. If it takes no effort to line it up, then chances are it's too loose and you need to move up a notch. If you really got to giver to line it up, then tread carefully.
