Installing cope bases

The only coating I use between the rifle and base is a very thin coating of oil. It's probably not necessary but just in case some surface rust forms between them it's just something I usually do.

if using slotted weaver screws, put some blue locktite on them. thread one screw part way in then the other to centre up the bases on the screw holes before you torque them down. sometimes drilling isn't perfect.

On blued steel I will use a light grease between base and action... it prevents rust in that area.

Do you mean sealant as in bedding the bases to the action? If that's what you mean, I only do this if the bases are not a great fit or screws are coming loose all the time. I use jb weld but devcon would probably work better.

+1 on this.
I pulled the bases off one of my rifles and there was a bit of surface rust on the barrel so I always put a film of grease on before I install the bases now.
