Hi Gents,

I picked up a used Winchester Model 70 EW. I'm thinking about having iron sights installed in the future. The flutes on the barrel go all the way to the muzzle. Would that cause any problems with front sight installation?

Not really... hopefully the flutes are indexed so the sight will lined up with the fluting and be dead on top...

There's a flute right on top. The barrel was cut down by a half inch (I'm not sure why) so that's why the flutes are so close to the muzzle.

The barrel is .1630 inches thick so I hope that enough material to install a sighT.

Measure the diameters and get a banded sight base to fit

Yup. Won't be cheap as not a lot of manufacturers make them. (See NEGC link here.) Miki123, since you're in the Lower Mainland, you might think of coming out to the 2-day HACS Gun Show in Chilliwack this coming Sat./Sunday. It's possible you might find something there as there are usually lots of parts. Heck of a way to blow 1/2 a day anyway!

HACS ANNUAL TWO DAY SHOW

2019 MARCH 16 & 17
9-5 Sunday 9-3
HERITAGE PARK – 44140 Luckakuck Way, Chilliwack, BC

As long as weather and work allow I'll be at the show (sights or no sights). I keep telling myself I'm going to go every year but something always gets in the way.
