I'm thinking about buying a new trigger.(Jewel) I was wondering, is it possible for a do-it-yourselfer to complete this job? I'm pretty keen on bolt guns & AR's I've built plenty from the ground up. I'm thinking with some guidance I could easily handle this job. Thoughts?

BTW It's a Rem700 .308

I've done it myself and it wasn't all that hard. Rem700 actions are pretty easy to deal with when it comes to changing triggers.

Just the two cross pins and the bolt release lever with spring.

They are easy to install, I just finished putting another one on my other 7mm. ### has them. That is where I just got mine.

Has anyone had experience with the Timney Tactical Trigger? It has a weight range of 2-10 ounces. At 10oz. thats just over half a pound  is this safe? I mean if you bump the rifle the wrong way will it go off? (yes, I know don't load it until you intend to fire, but Im just curious)

I installed a Timney trigger in my Rem 700, it was relativly easy to do and was well worth the money in my opinion. I did have to tweek the bolt release tab to make more contact, when I ran into the problem with the bolt not locking in place and the release sticking I called Casey at Tacord and he help me over the phone.
I have not had to adjust the pull a it came from Timney set at 2.5 I think, it was a giant difference over the stock trigger. Over all it was a worth while upgrade, for me the install was half the fun as I am a fan of DIY if you can.

same here I don't like triggers with no safety, especially those with a very light pull.. Obviously that comes down to personal responsibility in making sure you are already pointing at your desired target before chambering a round.

I have timney triggers on two of my rifles and like them a lot.

they are 1.5lb-3.5lb triggers. Ideally though I'd like something in the timney price range 150-200$ for something that goes between the pull of the tactical and the regular to something like 10oz-1.5 lb... I want to try a 1lb pull.

50calshooter it's completely straightforward, go ahead and do it. When I put a Jewell in my M70, it was necessary to remove some stock material in order to accommodate the housing of the Jewell, but I don't thing you need to do that with a Remington.

The "three-lever" (a description of the design) Jewell that I had (an adjustment range of 1 oz to several pounds) had a very small trigger shoe, exactly the sort of thing you'd want with a 2 oz. benchrest trigger. But with the trigger weight dialled up to 3.5#-4#, I found it to be fairly uncomfortable, digging into my finger.

For what it's worth the safeness of a trigger (i.e. not releasing unless pulled) has surprisingly little to do with its weight of pull. Other factors are much more important - its design, how it is adjusted, and whether its adjustments (specifically pull weight and sear engagement) are within the design's limits or not.

In the "different strokes for different folks" department, I am positively averse to using safeties. I never use them when target shooting (I don't load until I am ready to shoot, then I load, then I shoot). This mostly carries over into other kinds of shooting too (e.g. when hunting I'll have a loaded magazine but an empty chamber). For me it's a combination of not trusting many various designs of safeties to be good enough to bet a life on, and a seemingly superfluous task (engaging/disengaging a safety lever) that in most scenarios I don't see providing a net safety benefit

I can feedback later, I have one on the way. I had planned to install a PTG 3 position shroud along but I cannot figure how to remove the actual shroud. I have a firing pin disassembly tool on the way too, so I'll further investigate.

I'm hoping someone will chime in saying something smart about firing pin disassembly (it would really help:D)

I have a Timney Tactical sent from the factory set at a crisp 4oz. It was a breeze to put in with out modification, and does not slam fire. The trigger is great for the price but I would call it more of a "Target" trigger rather then a "Tactical" trigger. First no safety, and no bolt stop... although I knew the trigger had no safety and was ok with that, I over looked the fact it does not have a bolt stop which is a hassle.

Good trigger for the money, but comes with a few short comings.

If I can do it, I assure you that you can do it.

I got my Jewel from Wolverine a bunch of years ago and love it. Now I just whisper "go" when I want it to shoot ;)

The Jewel trigger is in a class of it's own, can't be compared to factory or timney, i have the Benchrest model on a couple of rifles and pull is at 1.5oz., there's nothing like it.
