Today I received a Kidd 20" ss match barrel. I am going to swap it for the stock ruger barrel in my 10/22. The receiver is a stock Ruger receiver. I am using a magpul x22 stock. I have never installed a barrel before. Please share your tips / pointers / suggestions/ and do's and don'ts.

Thanks in advanced.

I've done four or five now and none needed to be put in an oven or lubed up. Some peoples receivers are so tight tho something has to be done at that point I guess. Don't use a hammer on your new barrel :) take it slow..if it's too tight to even make a start don't just bash it in and then have it be misaligned and unable to get it unstuck. It's not hard anyhow. Nice barrel by the way. I bought a new one too bead blasted 20"

Congrats on the barrel! I'd try arm strength first, then anti seize, then tapping the receiver, then the heat/freeze treatment. Good luck!

Thanks.

I am having some trouble getting the Ruger barrel out of the receiver. And here I was worried about putting the new one in. LOL. How do I get this one off?! The humanity.

I had a bit of trouble with that too.
Get painters tape and wrap it around the barrel where it's flat for the vblock.
Then get a wrench I forget the exact size, maybe 3/4, just so it slides snug against the flat part of the barrel and over top the round part.
Then all you have to do is rock it side to side till it slides off. I wouldn't spin it just rock it side to side and it'll pull off.
Good luck!

I've also had tight barrels come out part ways simply by racking the bolt and letting it hit the chamber end of barrel till it starts to loosen. Sounds nutty but it's worked for me. Just be careful you might still want your factory barrel to look like a barrel and not a n old tire iron lol
